Shane's Do217J-1 Nightfighter
I'm going to be productive / stupid and attempt 2 builds for this GB.
I last built one of these way back around my 13th birthday. It was a gift from Mum, I remember asking for it as I was drawn by the amount of nose guns it has.
There is a bit of flash and quite a few sink marks due to some thick mouldings. All moveable flying surfaces will be glued in place because I'm now 43 and not 13. The canopy is pretty poor, very faint frames and thick. I will dip it in Klear but as I won't be going mad inside it won't really matter. The decals look pretty good for a 1977 boxing but not sure how well they will show up against the black of the airframe. I'm sure they should be greyer.
I did a bit of reading up and it seems they weren't overly liked by the crews. most of the bomber equipment was left in the early versions and with the added weight of all that firepower were overweight and sluggish.

Interesting choice, Shane. Will you be doing the all-black version?

Cheers Paul, yes the black for me. I don't want to do it just black , I'd like to try and get some variation by using some different black shades, Tam rubber black / Nato black etc

It would look quite mean in Black.

Nice choice Shane and one I have never built so it will be interesting to see how this one goes together.

Good choice, and that looks like a lot of nose mounted guns!

Shane,
Have fun with it. I remember making a royal futz of that kit an indeterminate number of years ago! I quite fancy a rematch now though.

Martin

All right, surely this group build must now be the "Son of Blitzbuild"?

Cheers
Jim

Wow, that's quick!
You could have entered this in the Blitzbau.
Great job. This will be finished in no time.

Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

Wow Shane. Really putting the spurs to it.

Re: Shane's Do217J-1 Nightfighter
Thanks, just the wings and tailplanes are glued together at the moment. A little more remedial work is needed around the engines. I hope to get the cockpit painted tomorrow and maybe the 3 crewmen too. I have glued the undercart doors closed, it will go on its original stand.
