I am going to use fine fishing line for the rigging, and my 0.3 drill would have been perfect. My LMS has not got any drill sets in, so I have ordered a new set off e-Bay for £2.90 with free postage. Bargain.

On closer inspection I noticed that some of the detailing has been lost through sanding, so I have replaced it with a thin piece of wire from an old set of headphones:

Difficult to see but once it has got some primer on it it should be more noticeable.

Construction is as complete as it can be prior to drilling out the rigging holes:

That's neat! Is that a glass enclosure over the rear cockpit?

Yes, though I believe it was more for protection than visibility as there are only 2 side windows on each side and four circular windows on the top. This will become more apparent once it is painted.

Thankfully the new drill bits have arrived, and I have been able to get the rigging holes drilled:

Next step is to complete construction, less the top wing, and get it primed.

Priming complete, I decided to go with black to give it some depth, and masked the top ready for the first silver colour:

I intend to give it a light coat of Steel first, then mask the ribs and give it a coat of Aluminium. I just hope that there will be enough contrast to make it worth all the effort.

See how it looks after the aluminium. I have Vallejo Air Steel and Aluminium - they are extremely similar in colour and it's difficult to see the difference when sprayed!

Cheers

First thing yesterday I gave the whole framework a coat of Revell No. 91 Steel, followed by a coat of klear to protect it.

Last night, after a couple of hours cutting tape I managed to get the ribs masked up.

Today I gave it a shot of Revell No. 99 Aluminium, and once dry I removed the masking:

I am quite pleased with how it has come out, I have taken the picture without a flash as it was giving too much flash distortion to make out the difference in shades.

It looks much better in the flesh.

I have not been able to get as much time at the bench as I had intended this weekend as SWMBO decided she wanted the front room decorating, so most of my time has been spent on a 1:1 scale Dining Room.

On the odd occasion I have been able to sneak away I have managed to get the decals on (kindly supplied by David (lancfan)) and the struts attached to the lower wing:

Image

Next step is to attach the top wing, wheels, pilot and windscreen, then pick up courage to tackle the rigging.

On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

After all the angst about doing the rigging (first time nerves) it wasn't as much of a pain as I thought it was going to be. After a couple of hours of steady cutting, threading and gluing with a well known CA Glue it is finished:

I have really enjoyed this build, and will most certainly be doing more bi-planes in the future.
