We're all recovering from a nasty stomach bug. My wife now has it, so I'm off work looking after her and the kids. Modelling time is scarce!TobyC wrote:Hope your real life returns to a more sedate pace soon to get you back to modelling.

Not looking good to finish by the end of the month I'm afraid. I can't see me getting any modelling time at all until Thursday at the very least.
I still need to finish the rigging and then attach the undercarriage and do a few tidy-up things.

And of course having said that, the modellling Gods on Mount Airfix smiled on me and gave me 90 minutes of time this evening.
The rudder is now in place and so there are some lines to put on that. I also need to add a windscreen, foothold and tail skid.
And finish painting the prop!

Undercarriage stuck on. It's a bit tricky to align. A couple of locating holes for the rear struts would help!
The prop has also been painted, so I can at least get it reasonably intact by the end of the month. There will be some missing detail though!
Cheers

Wheels and prop are on, so the model is largely together.
The rudder needs rigging, lots of paintwork needs fixing and the varnishing needs seeing to.
I probably won't get all that lot done in time, but at things are together, finally!
Cheers

Great work on the rigging. Is that elastic thread?

Yes, EZ line, the fine grade, in charcoal. It's the only stuff that I'm happy using, and I'm still refining the process! I'm gearing up to tackle that Toko Sopwith 1- 1/2 Strutter you gave meSoftscience wrote:Great work on the rigging. Is that elastic thread?
A new reel of EZ line is on the way. That should be good for about 20 years.

do you drill holes for it, or just stick it to the surface?

Re: Andrew's A.W. Siskin - Matchbox 1/72
I drill shallow holes in the underside of the upper wings and holes right through the lower wings.
Then with the plane upside down, I thread the EZ through the lower wing from the top and attach it to the shallow hole in the underside of the upper wing. I use a slow setting gel CA applied with a sharp toothpick.
Once that is dry, I gently put a little tension on the EZ line and apply CA to the hole in the lower wing.
When that is dry then I trim the excess line from the lower wing.
This minimises damage to the wings from drilling and means repairs need doing on the undersides of the lower wings, where they aren't very visible. Slicing the excess off with a scalpel is often enough for me
One good thing is that the plane remains flat on the worktop, so there's less chance of dropping it!
I'm experimenting with how small I can make the lower wing holes and still thread the line easily.
Cheers

Re: Andrew's A.W. Siskin - Matchbox 1/72 *Finished*
I'm counted this as finished. It still needs varnish and a couple of lines rigging.
Great kit and a thoroughly enjoyable build. Not the prettiest aircraft, but it looks nice when built up.
Cheers
