Hi Folks, haven't done a group build in a long time, mainly because i am terrible at finishing them....
but, 'tween war planes appeal to my sense of the odd and esoteric; it was a period when all things were possible. so, having dug around in the stash (and the box i have of bagged models) i came across the old Hasegawa 72nd kit of the heinkel He 51.
this an aeroplane i have always liked and seemed to bridge the gap between the WW1 types and the single wing fighters of WW2.
It will be built OOB, but i may (just may) WHIFF it as a Swiss machine; it suits Swiss markings but i dont believe it was ever flown by the Swiss AF.....

Just a head's up, The fit of the exhausts is atrocious and the struts are either too long or too short. I had to trim a couple and extend a couple.
Really nothing pithy to say.

Another good choice for the build. Look forward to it.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Re: Viking's little Heinie
work is slowly continuing on the He51, photographs are lagging slightly behind the actual building; all major parts together with just a smear of filler needed so far :
since then, i have sprayed teh white for the swiss markings and masked them off. one coat of pale grey has been added. more pix tonight (hopefully).

You know I giggle a bit every time I read your build title.
Your Heinkel is looking pretty nice. It's a very nice kit considering its age.
Are you planning on rigging it?

Re: Viking's little Heinie
Hi Folks, still not building this at a particularly fast pace, but making progress.
this is where i currently am:
now i need to mask the crosses in the centre of the large white squares, mask off the grey and spray red. i'm am hoping this works.....
John; yes, i will rig it. its quite a simple rigging scheme so should only take half an hour or so.... (and yes, i chose the title deliberatley, its not a scottish expression but have heard it used in USA ).

I think it took me about 30 minutes to lay out and drill the holes for rigging when I did mine a few years back. Yours is looking good. It's making want to build another.
Yeah, the term is an Americanism. I was wondering if you knew that when you chose it.

Re: Viking's little Heinie
Coming together nicely, you certainly chose a difficult scheme to do without the decals, but it should look a beaut once it is done.

Making good progress. I'm looking forward to seeing how the markings turn out.
