Re: Sign-up and Chat
I'll be building the Brewster Buffalo flown by Lt. John Smith "Jimmy" Thach (1905 – 1981) with VF-3 based on USS Lexington in 1940.
I will use an extremely old bagged Airfix 1/72 kit, matched with decals from a Starfighter decal sheet. As the date precedes the US entry into WW2, it will be overall silver with chrome yellow wings and willow green trim.
Cheers

Mine will be a CBK - the Revell(GB) 1/72 Wildcat IV (F4F-4) in FAA colors -- OOB except perhaps the markings.
I have numerous other subjects of greater size and complexity, but regrettably do not have the time in March.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I think I will either finally get going on my Airfix S-3 Viking, or their Skyray.. There is a project I have wanted to do involving a USN F-14 that the pilot landed back on the carrier minus it's radome and the canopy above the pilot. Despite head, eye and shoulder injuries and not being able to see out of more than 15% of the windscreen he still stuck it back on the carrier. Respect!!!.
I do have a picture but I'm not sure if I can post it as it's from the squadron website (VF-142 I think).

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I hope it's not too late to jump in on this one?? I've got a CMK Supermarine Scimitar that I'd love to get built this year and this would be a perfect opportunity.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
Just to be a little contrary, I was thinking about building a FW 190 in US Navy tri-color scheme. The was at least one FW-190 that was tested by the USN against a Hellcat and Corsair.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Well, it was flown by US Navy pilots, based at NAS Anacosta from 1943-45, and painted in standard naval scheme of Non-Specular Sea Blue, Intermediate Sea Blue, and White. So are we talking about only operational naval aircraft? That could eliminate aircraft such as the XFL-1 Airabonita, Vought XF5U-1 Flying Pancake, XF8U-3 Crusader III, or F6U Pirate. I have a feeling that this particular Fw-190 spent more time in USN colors than the Airabonita and the Flying Pancake never flew at all.
That Fw-190G3 sure appears to be wearing USN colors.

I will launch with 2 projects, the first will be an Eduard 1/48 Hellcat in USN colors, from the Essex.
The other is a Fujimi 1/48 A6M2 Zero in Pearl harbor colors.

I'm in with a Ventura (NZ)/High Plains Wirraway in 1/72. This A/C was used by the RAN at RNAS HMAS Albatross Nowra NSW.
