MarkyM607's Viking **FINISHED**

Post by MarkyM607 »

Hi, will get pic added. This is the older artwork release rather than the built model on blueprint style but should be okay. Been waiting a long while to replace the original Viking I built many moons ago, so decided to go with it for this!. Updates to come, won't get started today as had work and building wardrobe for friend so worn out (ahh).
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

That's a nice piece of box art. Always like this aircraft but have never built this kit, look forward to your progress.

Nice choice Mark, got mine tucked away somewhere. Are you going for the Viking head markings?

Yes, apart from being appropriate to the aircraft name (probably why they have it!!), it is the one I feel drawn to!!.

I agree with your markings choice. It is just so right and colorful.

Hi, not much to show so far, been hard to drag myself away from a nice Fujimi F-4G and a Revell (Matchbox) Beaufighter. But some progress has been made...

Of course I forgot to trap the MAD boom in the fuselage before closing the halves together! , luckily there was enough time to prise it open and put the boom in place. More to come, got two days off in a row so hopefully more will be done!.

Hi, bit more work done. I am trying to complete the fuselage and wings separately so I can put on the fiddly markings and stencil like stuff without too much bother!!.

I have also painted the white on the control surfaces of the tail sections but forgot to do a picture!!. Anyway, that's the state of play for now.

Certainly makes the masking easier as well.
Looks a nice kit, how has it gone together so far?

Cheers

Hi, yes masking is very much easier!. It has actually gone together without too much problem. One thing is the nose wheel bay attaches to the underside of the cockpit but on mine doesn't quite touch the underside of the fuselage!. Might be worth fitting them separately next time. Other than that it's good, the wings fit really well as do the pylons and engines. Enjoying it so far!.

Hi, thanks all. I thought of tinting the canopy but not quite sure how to do it, only have red, green and yellow clear paints so any ideas?. As for the weapons bay I've chickened out and glued it closed!! ;-), however I am making the torpedoes to be displayed alongside the aircraft when done.

Aaaaarrrrggghhhh!!!. Decal attack!!. Some are going on yellowed (as they were on the sheet so I should have expected this!), others are cracking up, mainly anything with colour in it such as the lovely tail markings!!. Sigh. However I have found the exact ones I need online (Yay), and have ordered them just in case (the yellowed one I put on actually seems clear now?!?!), and I do need new tail and data markings so hopefully they will get here in time for the end of build, and I can list this as finished.
I did manage to find a deal sheet from a Hasegawa S-3B (no idea where the kit is!!) that allowed me to replace the engine intake warning markings, as well as the star and bars and a nice block shaped decal for the top of the fuselage.
Photos to hopefully follow today or tomorrow.
