Tim's Skyraider **Finished**

Post by TimJ »

This one has been sitting in the stash since 1991 so I thought it was about time I built it.

The markings will be from an equally ancient Modeldecal sheet.

The last time I built one of these I was a teenager so I should make a better job of this one.

That's about the same time I built my last one.

It will be the buzz bee option Jim.

It's a nice kit. I built one last year. Hasegawa do weapon options if you fancy going really heavy metal.

Great choice :) I'll keep close tabs on your build as I just scored (finally) a conversion set for this kit to let me build the Royal Navy's AEW version of the Skyraider and its always good to know the base kit dpesn't have any nasties waiting in the wings.

It took a while but I've made a start on the interior.

I've also given the engine and cowling a coat of paint.

Nice going, Tim.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it as it looks like an 'honest' Airfix old-timer. I have one deep in the stash and you've made me want to get it out and have a go.

regards.

Over the past couple of days I've got the airframe assembled. I'd forgotten what a big beast it is.

Image

It will need a smear of filler here and there but overall the fit has been very good. Most of the pylons have ejector pin marks on them so that will be next on the agenda.

After some filling and sanding I've got some paint on it over the weekend, as well as the underwing decal. White from a Halfords rattlecan first followed by a coat of Gull Grey.

The grey will need at least one more coat so I probably won't be finished before the deadline.

With the wing walks and anti dazzle panel painted yesterday I got the decals on this evening.

The pylons and drop tanks have been painted so they should be on tomorrow. If I'd started this earlier I'd have finished well within the time but as it is it's close but no cigar.
