Paul's Never Enough Spitfire VIII

Post by PaulBradley »

Upholding the oft-held aphorism that one can never have too many, here's yet another.

This will be the Hasegawa 1/48 Mk.VIII, and will be painted (probably) in desert colours. Or, perhaps, Far East. Depends on whether I order those aftermarket decals....

Obligatory boxart and sprue shots:

You'll notice I sprayed the prop - I was spraying the Hurricane props and thought I'd do this one as well, while I had the airbrush out. So shoot me. :ha:

I probably won't get a lot done before the weekend, just some interior painting.

This looks like a lovely kit, I have one stashed somewhere so will watch closely.

I've built the Mk.IX and it goes together really well. Of course, there are the known issues with the mis-proportioned fuselage, but I don't think it's so bad that the kit is not worth building.

Some minor progress during the week - Interior Green added to various parts, some wash and dry brushing to bring out detail, exploded into big progress last night - Robin had some of her friends over for a movie party, so it was a good excuse to slip into the modelling den for a few hours.....! ;-)

Here's the interior:

Yes, I touched up the paintwork after taking these photos.... :ha:

Worked on the wings a bit, and I got the fuselage glued together last thing, so pretty happy with progress. This weekend, I hope to finish up the wings and get the airframe completed.

I also broke down and ordered the decals last night. As if I don't already have enough in my collection, but, amazingly enough, nothing suitable for this build.....

Fuselage together. Here, you can see the dry-brushed IP - Hasegawa provide a nicely detailed panel with raised instruments that just cries out for this type of treatment.

And the wings. Although you can't see them in this view, the radiator matrices are also well-depicted and also dry-brush very nicely.

Nice progress Paul, I wish I had the room to display larger models, I tend to stick with 1/72.

I am rapidly running out of space, and I sense a culling in the near future. Should I gas them or shoot them?

Princess Anne thinks that gassing is more humane...

Can you donate them somewhere?

I think my local museum has enough of my models......

Not a lot of progress yesterday. I got the fuselage and wings glued together on Saturday night, but ended up with a nasty step on the port side. Most displeased. :frown: Decided I didn't want to work on it yesterday, so I'm putting it off until another day.

Well, never thought it would come to this - I've had enough....

I couldn't face working on the wing roots, and I've lost interest completely. I'll not be completing this - sorry David.

Sorry to hear that, Paul.

Maybe leave it for a couple of days and see how you feel then?

Cheers, Martin.

As I can only realistically model on the weekends, and I basically lost the last two to other things, and I've lost the motivation, I just don't see it happening within the GB timeframe....

I'm sorry to hear that Paul, in time perhaps you may get back to it in your workbench thread?

Fair enough, Paul.

If it ain't fun, then a hobby loses its purpose. I hope you regain the urge soon, but I'm sure you've got plenty on besides modelling anyway.

BTW, are you still planning to be back in Blighty for SMW?

Martin
