"Skipper hates Jerries!" **FINISHED**
"Skipper hates Jerries!" **FINISHED**
I have chosen Battle of Britain movie star Spitfire IIa P7350 as my first subject. Many Spitfires involved in the making of the film wore the AI-A codes worn by Robert Shaw's character Squadron Leader Skipper, and thankfully P7 was one of them!
The kit I'll be using for this is the Revell 1/32nd scale Mk.I/II. Unfortunately, the original box for this one got written off after getting damp in the loft. So I had to improvise!
For some reason, I always thought the kit had an engine that could be displayed, but it clearly doesn't!
These are the after-market decals I bought specially for this project:
I'm looking forward to starting this on Tuesday!

Re: "Skipper hates Jerries!"
I'm going to enjoy watching this one, not only as a fan of the film (went to the Manchester premier as a lad) but also for fond memories of building this original mark one kit (that did have a complete engine, was surprised your kit didn't) many years ago, the model is long gone but I do have an identical box, decal sheet and instructions for this same kit. The plan will be to get hold of the 1/72 scale "frameable box top" mark 2 box, instructions and decals and then mount and frame the lot together.

The old Revell kit does indeed have an engine displayed and working landing gear and flaps, I built it a few years ago.
Your kit may be a Hasegawa kit in a revel box.

Re: "Skipper hates Jerries!"
This will be fun to watch I can see how to build a large scale kit before starting mine.
As a kid back in the late sixties I recall watching the Spitfires flying over our school when they were filming the BOB, I lived in Folkestone and they used the old Hawkinge airfield that was on top of the downs overlooking our school, on the weekends we used to cycle up and watch them filming.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.
Re: "Skipper hates Jerries!"
It looks like it has a number of extra, non-Mk.II parts, such as extended wingtips (from the Mk.VI) and a slipper tank, so I reckon you could be right. Still, can't complain!Chris wrote:The old Revell kit does indeed have an engine displayed and working landing gear and flaps, I built it a few years ago.

That is the Hasegawa kit, the old revel one was from the 60s!

Re: "Skipper hates Jerries!"
I'm about 80% sure my granddad built me one of the older models some years ago - it definitely had engine detail (although the cowlings were fixed on!). It came with the old "Borough of Lambeth" codes that most Mk.IIs seem to have!

Re: "Skipper hates Jerries!"
Apologies for not having updated this for a while - I was busy working on other models!!
However, as the deadline looms, I shall get fired into the big beast once again. No work over the weekend (some stupid thing called "work" is getting in the way of that!) but I will crack on proper on Monday, with a view to assembling something, at least, by the end of the day!

Cheers, Ron. I'm hoping to get the majority of the paintwork done today, with a view to getting it finished tomorrow - after some pesky thing called "work"!!

And a bit more....
The prop is temporarily fitted - simply pushed onto the mount for the time being (although it's quite handy to remove in case I need to!)
