Re: August's prewar job
Nice work. Those Modeldecal sheets come in handy for roundels and codes.

They were stiffeners fitted to prevent the wings from failing around the undercarriage bay after some Spits were lost while pulling too much G. Only fitted to the Mk.I, II and V.jRatz wrote:Hmmm, I just noticed those two "fences" on each wing ????
The BBMF Mk.Vb has them fitted.

Re: August's prewar job
Wish I could say the same for the old Letraset dry transfers, which were my first choice for the codes. Knowing they'd be frail at their age and hard to apply to the fuselage, I tried to rub them onto decal film to use as decals. They refused to separate from the carrier sheet. Unless I find some way to get them to release, my quite impressive stash of old DTs is useless. Anyone has any tips, please let me know.TimJ wrote:Nice work. A good model is any model you can walk away from.

Thanks, Daren, I guess I've never seen them before (or I forgot) - and I'll have to admit to not being a Spitfire expert.DazDaMan wrote:They were stiffeners fitted to prevent the wings from failing around the undercarriage bay after some Spits were lost while pulling too much G. Was that a field fix and/or done on the production line ? I'll probably spend my day looking through my Spitfire books now instead of fixing the garage door ... darn.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Re: August's prewar job - FINISHED
As noted on my Mk.XVI thread, I couldn't get all the little gewgaws on before being called out of town for business, but I'm close enough to finish what has been, give or take some self-inflicted painting problems, an enjoyable and painless build. You can see that some touch-ups are also still needed, like the part of the canopy framing that came away with the masking tape.
