Namibia Mig ***Complete***
My build will use after market decals and will be the the KP kit in 1/72 scale. I bought this kit in Europe in the 80s during the cold war, finally getting to building it!
Its a decent kit with under wing stores and choice of cold war era markings
The instructions call for a number of camo and silver birds

Re: Angolan Mig
Great camo choice Chris, the Angolans have some very nice schemes.
I have this kit in the to-do pile so will watch with interest.

Watching this closely too. I'm saving my KP for the Iron Curtain build in November. I like how they give you all those numerals on the decal sheets. Except only two of each numeral so you couldn't build, say, #7611 pictured on the instruction sheet.

I never noticed that!K5083 wrote:I like how they give you all those numerals on the decal sheets. Except only two of each numeral so you couldn't build, say, #7611 pictured on the instruction sheet.

I wonder if that is why the aircraft represented on the box is 7612.

Number issues aside (Chris has said he is using aftermarket decals anyway), it doesn't look to be a bad old kit and will look good in that Angolan camo.

Re: Angolan Mig
The KP kit is a kit of it's time, and place. You can get a good result from one with a bit of work though, and I know that Chris is well up to bringing the best out in any kit.

Re: Angolan Mig
I agree, it looks like the basics are there to produce a nice enough model of the aircraft and Chris is well up to the job.

Re: Angolan Mig
Thanks for the kind word boys, just as soon as I finish decaling my ToS enterprise this lil guy is getting my full attention.
I have a nice railroad color Jade that matches Soviet era cockpit color decently, and I will attempt to see if those panel decals can be salvaged though I doubt it. They were pretty raw when I got the kit, but I have future them a few times so we shall see.

Re: Angolan Mig
The first step is adding weight and building and painting the cockpit
The funky green color of Soviet built Migs is an old railroad bottle of 'jade'.
Next the fuselage is joined, I removed the front locators as it wouldn't fit properly with them
The wings and tailplanes are added, these had to be trimmed a bit to fit correctly, but if you take the time to do so it does not require any putty work

Re: Angolan Mig
Great work Chris (I hope there's enough weight in that front end). That bottle of Railroad Colors looks positively ancient!

But a really good match for an unusual shade. I wonder what train was painted in that particular shade?ShaunW wrote:Great work Chris (I hope there's enough weight in that front end). That bottle of Railroad Colors looks positively ancient!

Re: Nigerian Mig
All the little fiddly arts are attached and the bottom is sprayed light blue
Next the top is sprayed a sand color
The green is applied free hand
the camo is touched up a bit
