It would be a lot of effort, I don't think I would attempt it either!general rocket wrote:AndrewR wrote:And your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to drill out all of those windows and install computer controlled lighting
Or not
It does look impressive, quite a chunk of plastic there!
In my case, not.

Another thing I did think about, but only if I had lot's more time and someone who knows a bit more about lighting models than me!. The windows look very nice for drilling and with the large open spaces inside the model it's crying out for light but I may have to pass this time!.AndrewR wrote:It would be a lot of effort, I don't think I would attempt it either!general rocket wrote:AndrewR wrote:And your next mission, should you choose to accept it, is to drill out all of those windows and install computer controlled lighting

Agreed. If I where to do this kit again, lighting, particularly of the engines, would be a high priority.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Re: MarkyM607's Voyage(r)
Nice choice, I've looked at getting one of these a few times. Go well with my Revell Klingon D7 and Enterprise which keep looking at me from the cupboard.
Re: MarkyM607's Voyage(r)
Just a quick update, I can drill out the windows from the outside but as I've glued the primary and secondary hulls together I can't clean up the inside!!. This does seem to block some of the lighting a I can squeeze inside, although a small torch just inside the rear of the secondary hull does light the clear plastic windows quite well.
Never mind, luminous yellow Revell paint might work!!.

Re: MarkyM607's Voyage(r)
Finally!, some more pics (well two!).
I've painted the top surface Humbrol 196, as well as the phaser strips. I think I am on a course to paint this to completion before I build the engines but I think it will be easier, sort of like finishing an aircraft fuselage before putting the wings on!. I did try shading the recessed panel lines in Humbrol 128 but they are just deep enough, and the plastic dark enough, that if you paint the panels 'gently' enough they make their own shading!.

Looking good! (Even if it's a bit of a monster )
Best wishes

That's looking good. I like the level of panel line shading you have.

Re: MarkyM607's Voyage(r)
Thanks chaps. It's a biggie no doubt but fairly easy to build. Only the curved spine section caused problems as it didn't line up 100% (98%!!), although the problem is barely noticeable when you do know it's there. It would put it on after the primary hull is attached to the secondary next time(!!). The secondary is left and right parts so needs a little watching for lining up but nothing too bad.
Might have to give her another coat of grey top and bottom to get a better coverage, but it IS the detail painting that will take up the most time!.
