Shane's T.I.E Interceptor.

Post by shangos70 »

Should be an easy build, this could be found in an Airfix 4 kit box way back in around 83/84 along with the B-Wing, X-Wing and A-Wing. The box set comes up on Ebay now and then and fetches good money.

Looks like a kit of few parts. I think the fun with these builds is going to be in the painting.

I've made a start with some basic priming, It will take as long to mask up the panels than to build the whole thing. There is a pilot included but looks nothing like anything from the film. Probably won't be seen once if tinted the clear parts.

Lack of parts in a kit is not a problem. The finished article is what matters.
Have fun with the masking up.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

Masked up the wing panels, now trying to decide on the exterior colour. The Revell easy kits a blueish grey. When I did Darth Vader's TIE Advanced I just used grey primer and kleared over the top.

I've been searching the web for colour refs, the box art shows it in a grey/off white but it seems the actual props were built in a blue / grey and look whiteish due to the bluescreen filming of the time. Anyhow, Revell have moulded the TIE Advanced and standard TIE in the blue grey. I've have found a reasonable match in the new Humbrol RLM 78 .This will probably get a squirt over with tamyia smoke.

I have given the innards a squirt of humbrol sea grey 27 and will paint up the seat and controls in black with various blobs of colour for the switches.
