That looks ace!
Best wishes

"Slow and steady" doesn't appear right in this context. The need to stay out of spoilerspace prevents alternative suggestionsVickersVandal wrote:Slow and steady wins the race....
Cockpit looks great. I can't help but wonder though, is white the correct colour for Dio's ship? Dull aluminium seems closer to what I remember.

Re: VVVanship.
Thanks for comments about the wood effect. I used a new approach and I'm pretty happy with the result.
So this is a ship that Dio thrashes in a race, yeah? I've only found images of her in a different white/silver vanship, viz:
http://i.imgur.com/lo9Iv.png;
....which, incidentally, looks insanely cool and if it ever gets kitted I will be there with bells on and my ears pinned back!!
I'm going to stick with white, even if its not technically correct, because I am really sold on the look of this thing in gloss white
Don't worry over much about spoilers - I'm unlikely to watch the second series. I'm barely able to make it through the rest of the first. I find Anime somewhat hard to take.rob_van_riel wrote:"Slow and steady" doesn't appear right in this context. Re: VVVanship.
The race I was thinking about is from the first series, and it is won mostly by going full tilt, plus a bit of clever pitstop planning by Lavie. Don't recall Dio wrecking their ship though.Don't worry over much about spoilers - I'm unlikely to watch the second series. I'm barely able to make it through the rest of the first. I think you'll find that should be "him" instead of "her", and going from memory I'd say that's the Guild ship Dio and Luciola fly in the first series.I've only found images of her in a different white/silver vanship, viz: http://i.imgur.com/lo9Iv.png;

Looking pretty great, the wood effect is masterful.

Re: VVVanship.
Thanks BW
I'm putting on white base coat at the moment. So far so good.
Rob, that Dio character is so sexually ambiguous I had no idea what was up with he/she/it! Thanks for clarifying that one.
I'm going to go back and re-watch the race episode. I can't recall what Dio was using in it. I do remember Lavie's pit stop action and Tatiana being her usually bitchy self, but that's about all I recall.

That is superb Phil! I wish I hadn't looked at it until after I finished my own....philp wrote:My review finally went live.

Ambiguity is Dio's specialty, in just about every domainVickersVandal wrote:Rob, that Dio character is so sexually ambiguous I had no idea what was up with he/she/it!
It's not the one used in the race, however, this link says it's the ship he used in the second series (can't check, was not sufficiently impressed to hang on to the fansubs)http://unguilded.dreamwidth.org/4606.htmlI'm going to go back and re-watch the race episode. Not realy known for her easygoing manners..Tatiana being her usually bitchy self, but that's about all I recall.
On the subject of impressive builds by others, take a peek at what these otaku pulled off:

Yeah, I saw that when I was first looking for references. That is some crazy work!
I'm now all hopped up on vanships and I'm looking for 1/43 scale 1930s racing cars to kitbash into more of them

Re: VVVanship.
Detail parts are mostly painted. Just need to find daylight hours to finish applying the white to the body panels and then I should be on the home straight.
The wing panels and grille came out really well with gunze burnt iron heavily dry brushed with Vallejo silver
I also went out and bought a 1/64 scale alfa P2 to kitbash into my own Vanship design
