Air Jeep- A rescued model

Post by BlohmWolf »

(It would be best for people to subscribe to this thread, for continuous updates)

I'm not sure if I can do this, but this is a Science Fiction build, if I'm not mistaken.

So when working on Starscream with PredaKing, I tripped over a box that fell over and landed face-first onto my bench. Rubbing my head over, I looked down toward the box. It appears to have dust literally caked onto it. I inspected the dusty contents inside. A few old bits and pieces, some plasticine, ancient instructions, unusable decals a couple of cups and misc.

But I found in the corner of the cardboard package, this unattended little thing, which appears to be made by airfix

I looked over to the spares box and saw some spare bits and bobs; wheels, a large propeller, gadgets, wing ends, plastic lids and boxes, detailing items, spare sprue and so on. All this together gave me a most intriguing idea ever.

So, with a whole lot of parts gathered up, lets see what we can make.

Oh, and what paint scheme I can do too.

Thanks David! I thought it would be an airfix one because of the green plastic and the moulding looked like airfix.

Work will commence on this model in approximately 6.30 hours. As I have a lot of things I need to get out of the way before I can begin on my scratchbuilt adventure. :-D

First up, I got everything I needed and gave it a big wash of oven cleaner for a couple of nights, then got them out and scrubbed them down pretty hard. I took the tarpaulin roof off, and worked on getting a long pole+prop to fit in and possibly spin, then made a small engine block to fit in the confined space. Which is a shame as you can't see much of it anyway:

I got the supporting pole and the prop together, then worked on putting on a couple of large flaps right near the back of the vehicle, tilted 24* up. Underneath I found a couple of small hinges in the spares box, so two tiny holes were drilled with both a sharp knife and a bit.

A couple of flaps made from thin plastic will act as a sort of cool sharp thing.

Cold weather stopped me from doing anymore, so tomorrow I should get the new wheels on. The ones I happened to borrow from the old dragon He-219....

 Thank you everyone. I hope to make it look more ship-shape by straightening out and filling, in which there will be a lot of.

I really need to get both of my subjects finished quickly!

Or maybe Chris could extend the GB a bit further?

More quick progress, I decided to give the whole thing a shot of Brunswick Green as I needed a quick colour scheme:
