Loving the detailing

Re: Lancfan's XR220 build.
I was not pleased with the contrast of the printed paper exhaust covers so I painted new ones onto the plastic card blanking plates.
From lessons learnt when building the Meteor Sweeper in the Sci-Fi GB I have painted the wing undersides before glueing the wing to the fuselage.

Nice work on the exhaust blanks, are you going to make intake blanks or just leave them open?

The wing has been glued down and the joint lines filled. When the filler was dry the seams were sanded down and the fin has been fitted, the tailplanes will go on next and then the model will be painted later today.

Cheers Tim, the airframe is now complete and is being painted, the final coat of white will be applied tomorrow night when the next pictures can be posted and decals can then be applied.

Re: Lancfan's XR220 build.
With the TSR-2 GB about to end I have been prevented from completing by the demands of work and I must declare my XR220 build a DNF. Although I have completed this TRS-2MS model this month-
-in the Sci-Fi GB as a trial kit for the model I am working on here and with my normal monthly available build time I do know I could have built both models within the month. Of course I did not finish and as GBL it does annoy me somewhat. XR220 will be completed as an Aviation Modelling thread later. I do have this to say, there is nothing to prevent a model of this size being built within a GB but this kit is so awful that it defeated many of us here and only Airfix is to blame for that-it is after all meant to be a new tool kit.

I think, that you can give yourself a tick, David, for finishing one Airfix TSR.2 in a month and another for doing so well at it...looking forward to your 220's debut...

Thanks Simon, I will deny myself the tick as I didn't build it in this GB, I very much wanted to take part in the Sci-Fi GB and this was the only suitable kit I had so although it was built within the time frame it was in the wrong place.

I agree with you David nothing wrong with the size of the kit for the length of the GB, we just picked a great subject but very poor kit to build.

Two TSR-2 in a month, with all the work involved, plus the real world interfering no doubt, was a tough challenge by any standard....your Sci-Fi build was excellent, and I can't see this one being any different when you do finish it
Best wishes
