Tonight I fitted the bomb bay doors and guess what? you got it, it needed filler, so back to the sanding filling sanding routine.

Airfix' way of keeping you on your toes!
Best wishes

Hope your cold is better Splash.splash wrote:I have had a stinking head cold and not managed much bench time over the last week.
I get the feeling building this kit that Airfix have added parts just for the sake of it. for example the square panel just in front of the front wheel well, why didn't they just mould it as part of the fuselage?
Regards Splash
I can't be certain without going to look at my TSR.2 in the loft room, but I think the square panel you're referring to is the Doppler door. It's part of the terrain following radar system and it should be painted a light sandy/buff colour.

Cheers Daz I'm feeling much better now, but progress on the TSR2 is slow as the photo below shows, having said that I feel it's probably one of those kits that all comes together quickly at the end.

Coming along nicely. Those bomb bay doors don't look too good, I may have to cover mine up with a ventral fuel tank.

Re: Splash's XR219
Once rubbed down the filler does not look so bad.
When I first bought the original TSR2 kit back in the late 90's I was too scared to build it, as at the time it was one of my grail kits that I had waited years and years for Airfix to make and I just felt I did not have the skill to do it justices.
I'm now glad I left it so long before building it, I'm enjoying the build as it's less of a challenge it would have been back in the 90's.
The kits starting to come together, tonight the undercarriage got fitted and the doors added, once they have set, guess what comes next, yes you guessed right lots moor filler followed by sanding, I think Airfix got it wrong and modelled the wheel wells open so when you close them up it's not a good fit.

Ah, yes...... the under carriage doors
I had to trim quite a bit off them to get them to shut properly; have fun!
You did buy the jumbo tub of filler didn't you?

Looking good. I'm not looking forward to fitting my undercarriage doors, I may have to get some more filler.

Re: Splash's XR219
The top coat of white looks bad and I'm starting to loose interest in this build to the extent that I have started a Card Model of the Titanic to relax.
I had high hopes for this build, but it has just sapped my mojo, the constant filling/sanding/filling/sanding cycle has taken the fun out of the build, I have so much to do I think it will be a DNF.

That's a shame Splash, it was coming on nicely. What's the issue with the white?
Best wishes

Exactly why I spent 80% of the build so far fettling the parts. It does help that I do enjoy fettling.splash wrote:I had high hopes for this build, but it has just sapped my mojo, the constant filling/sanding/filling/sanding cycle has taken the fun out of the build, I have so much to do I think it will be a DNF.

I normally enjoy building older kits more so than the shake and bake newer kits but I just don't see the light at the end of the tunnel with this build.JamesPerrin wrote:Exactly why I spent 80% of the build so far fettling the parts. Iggie the white has gone on a bit thin and not covering the primer very well, I will try and give it another coat tonight to see if its worth plodding on with.
