Re: iggie's Operation Telic What-if
Hmmmm...I'm not sure about the pencil lining; it's relatively easy to do with defined panels, but so far looks a little stark to me.
Hopefully it'll tone down a bit with gloss for decalling and matt finish.

That's why I make my canopies a solid colour now days, for what little we see of a cockpit in 1/72 scale it hardly seems worth the effort and I think solid canopies look meaner anyway.splash wrote:It makes me lough, we spend all our time trying to match the perfect colour of the dash board and seats then add a canopy that we have tinted orange/gold
Thanks for showing the underside, now I have seen it all closed up I will not spend any time adding detail to the wheel wells.
Keep up the good work we are all following you.
Regards Splash
Looking forward to seeing your Telic TSR2 done Iggie coming along nicely so far.

Re: iggie's Operation Telic What-if
Today's update:
Yesterday was mainly applying a couple of gloss coats prior to decals, plus the addition of the undercarriage (interesting process getting the tandem main wheels straight, level and both touching the ground... ) and I got a little impatient and stuck some bombs on too .
Today was sorting through copious amounts of old spare decals to find suitable insignia and stencilling for a Telic era bird, and then applying them:
As of last night
And this afternoon:
More bombs and underwing clutter to go on tonight, some painting (Radome, touching in undercarriage legs/wheels etc) and a matt varnish to seal

Looking good iggie, have not given much thought to an operational RAF whiff build but I am coming round to the idea.

Xtracrylix often clogs, some colours are better than others and it is good practice to keep a thinner soaked cotton bud to hand and regularly clean the tip of the needle.

I like it, its one of my favourite WHIF colour schemes, I suspect it would look good in low viz grey as well.

Re: iggie's Operation Telic What-if ***FINISHED***
Well, that was short and sweet! Gave her a final coat of matt varnish this evening, and then re-fixed the pitot tube due to carelessness on my part , then a spot of matt black to hide the flaked paint.
I've enjoyed this kit, despite some of the scare stories on the net about the fit etc; maybe I'm just not as exacting as some, but for me it was a good experience.
It's also been good fun doing a build thread alongside others doing the same kit, and I'll certainly be up for more GB's in future.
So, without further ado, here is my offering for the TSR-2 GB 2014;
RAF Storm GR2, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, May 2003ish

That looks so right in those colours and with the sharkmouth. I can well believe a whif of it beings in service into 2003.
I think the pencil lines worked well. I'll try that. Any more hints/advice on that?

Re: iggie's Operation Telic What-if
Thanks for the kind comments chaps
David, the pencil worked quite well, although the lines appeared a bit harsh at first I'm glad that it worked as I'd never tried it before!
I used a 0.05mm drawing pencil, with an HB lead, and found it worked best when I kept the tip at 90 degrees to the surface I was lining as it seemed to stay in the groove easier that way. Oh and the lining was done after the main colour was sprayed. Getting the pressure right to leave enough of a visible line, but without scoring through the paint was tricky at first, but easy enough to get the hang of; a softer lead might be better. Once the lines had had a couple of gloss and then matt coats of varnish they toned down nicely

Wow, very impressive finished looking model. I've not always been taken with some of the TSR 2 Whiffs but this looks the biz. I wears that shark's mouth well.
