MarkyM607's FW189 ***FINISHED***
MarkyM607's FW189 ***FINISHED***
As I think TimJ is doing, I have picked the Airfix FW189 to do as I have never built or attempted this one. Looks simple with five steps to the instructions!. Was going to do a 190 but apparently everyone would do that, or so I read!! .
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Re: MarkyM607's FW189
Hi,
Have done the wings, or glued them together anyway, cockpit/crew area coming along but that is it so far. Have noticed that the kit seats and crew seems a little big(?), the area seems small in the kit due to this but big on pics and plans I have seen. Plus the pilot seat is in the center on the kit but a cutaway shows it to one side?. Not sure if it's worth correcting this in 1/72nd.

Re: MarkyM607's FW189
Just a little update this time. I have moved and raised the pilot and navigator swivel seat a little. I have also attempted some basic pedals for the pilot. (And I do mean basic!!!).
That's all for now!. Okay I was wrong, just a couple more pics. The first is the colour scheme I am going for, it is a pic from 'Warplanes of the Luftwaffe', Aerospace Publishing, it's not my pic. Aircraft was based in Finland during 1942.

Problem!!!.
Just getting going and noticed I have three right side tail boom parts and one left side!!, have assembled one boom but can't finish the other. Have inquired to Mr.Airfix about the missing part, although it's technically a replacement?!.
Anyway, will press on with something else although I was hoping to complete each wing with the tail boom to aid fitting the other parts so may have a pause approaching.

I know from my own experience that the Airfix spares dept. do an outstanding job. Look forward to seeing this progress now you have all the parts.

Re: MarkyM607's FW189
Progress has been a little slow, getting distracted again by my twin tail beaufighter I am having a go at. Anyway, here are two more pics to show state of play. Realised I had another problem even after the replacement tail part arrived, the right boom was made up of two outside parts so no slot for the horizontal tail!!!. Probably my doing this time but am now totally confused as to what actually came in the kit!!. Plus I glued one boom to the wrong wing so the slanted fairing each side of the engine was wrong!. Sigh. Still, might have to buy another and see if I can build it better. That's my excuse anyway!

Just in case anyone's still interested, as this isn't a thrilling build to follow!!! , here are a couple more pics to show the state of play as of today.
Getting there. The kit seems to be showing it's age(!) as the seams are quite obvious on mine, otherwise it's not to bad.

Nice work, I especially enjoy the camouflage treatment.

Don't worry, you're outpacing me with your progress....and there are others who haven't yet started their FW builds
It's looking good. Not a huge amount left there to finish it. Don't envy you the canopy masking though...
Must.....build....ALL the Sopwith Camels!...

As long as it doesn't go further than palpitations!! As for the canopy masking I was deciding between the ground crew covering it up(!!) with a tarp, or using my old method of hand painting the frame using a very small brush and eroding my eyesight a bit!!.VickersVandal wrote:Are you kidding??
