Daz's long-lived Spitfire **FINISHED**
Daz's long-lived Spitfire **FINISHED**
So, my first build for this particular GB will be the Revell Spitfire VB:
I haven't built one of these in years, but I don't recall having many issues in the past with the kit itself.
The subject of my build will be this Spitfire Vb, flown on two patrols on D-Day itself (I checked!), and scoring a kill against a Bf109G on D+2 while being flown by F/L David "Foob" Fairbanks.
The Spitfire itself was originally built as a Mk.I in 1940, hence the unusual serial number!

Re: Daz's long-lived Spitfire
OK, so a bit late off the bat, but here are a few photos of the build so far....
Components being painted on the sprues. A bit of flash on this one, but nothing severe.
I actually started with the wings on this one!
The reason being that one of the ammunition blisters had broken free of the sprue and was floating around in the bag. As I didn't want to lose it, I thought the best thing was probably to glue it onto the wing. Might as well put them together at the same time!!

Re: Daz's long-lived Spitfire
In my enthusiasm, I forgot to get photos of the cockpit components, but here they are, plus the wings and fuselage, all put together!
And with some paint applied.
I've seen a variety of ways to do a D-Day aircraft, with many folk masking off the areas where the stripes are to go, but I find it easier to apply a full camo scheme onto the model, so that I know where the lines are meant to go, and also, if I'm not happy, I can revert to a normal scheme if needs be!

The model is looking quite stripey at the moment - just needing to be tidied up before applying decals.

Cheers, Martin!
The stripes on this one weren't a problem. On the third Spit, however....!!
