It's a great work!

I think that modeling is a subtle mix of zen philosophy and absolute crazyness - but in my case I would not dare to specify the respective percentage of each......

Re: Lancfan's Sherman Crab.
The kit bogies have been built up and the return springs have been made from alluminium foil and cyano'd in place.
This done the completed bogies were glued to the hull.
When the bogies were dry the new tools were fitted to the hull.

Yes, alluminium foil!
Why did not I think of that?

I'm glad you were tied down at work, made it easier for me to catch up when I got back - some excellent work going on, David, as usual !

Thanks John- this is the model as it stands so far, The kit booms have been corrected to more accurately represent the Crab I but they are still compromised as the kit parts do vary from the plans and photographs and to properly build this I would have to scratch build the complete flail assembly.

The flail booms are now in place and the lane marking/positioning gear is half done.

I vote for a link-by-link scratch build of the chains .... what say everyonelancfan wrote:Thanks John- this is the model as it stands so far, The kit booms have been corrected to more accurately represent the Crab I but they are still compromised as the kit parts do vary from the plans and photographs and to properly build this I would have to scratch build the complete flail assembly.

Re: Lancfan's Sherman Crab.
I'll pass on that John, I am however going to make the chains from copper wire, in the foreground is the first one glued into the drum, it was made from two strands of wire twisted together, folded over and twisted again. One down and thirty five to go.

John, Mark, LOL.
The drum is here dry fitted to the tank with the first row of chains in place. The next step is to place the other rows in such a way that they realistically portray the position and weight of the chains at rest around the drum.

Re: Lancfan's Sherman Crab.
A quick way of doing the chains would be to get a length of wire fold it in half around something fixed then put the other ends into a drill pull it tight and switch on the drill, 30 seconds later and you have a long length of twisted wire.

Splash, the wire I am using is so thin that it wouldn't survive that treatment.

David, you are doing a superb job.
