Beany's Valom 1/72 Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle

For choice of subject, the box art says it all really...

The instructions:

Sprues and extras

Not much in the way of detail inside the fuselage, but I don't expect much will be seen when she all goes together anyway.

The transparencies are a bit on the thick side. They will get a good dip in Klear before painting and attaching.

I have managed to scrounge up a motley crew for this aircraft from the spares box so will do it in a wheels up, in-flight pose as is normal for me.

I thought that was a B25 at first. Great looking kit.

This will be great o see built. It's such an unsung, or even unloved, aeroplane probably because it didn't have a very glamorous role.

Thanks for posting the instructions. That kit has a lot more cockpit and engine detail than I suspected. Might have to get one.

It also wan't that good - being too heavy and underpowered. It was designed as a bomber but was found to be inadequate for that job. It was then relegated to being a glider tug.

That's a nice looking kit Al. I haven't seen a Valom kit up close before and I must say that I'm quite impressed.

Had a pretty torrid time with the airbrush this evening. It was in a mood and just didn't want to play. I eventually got a coat of Vallejo ModelAir 71029 Dark Earth on, but it was way too dark so I over sprayed it with Tamiya XF52 Flat Earth. While that was drying for a couple of hours I made some paper masks by drawing round the wings and fuselage onto a sheet of A4 then just cut them out and folded and roughly taped them in place. I then sprayed on Tamiya XF81 RAF Dark Green.

Image

Image

I decided to do the spraying now to avoid having to mask all of the glazing if I did it once the aircraft is put together. Any seam lines or such like that result from the construction can be touched in with paint by hand later.
Image

The bottom wing shows the paper masks roughly taped in place as I said. I wasn't too worried about getting hard edges on the camoflage and use some small bits of Blue-Tack to raise the edges in some places.
Image

And with the masking removed.
Image

Remember that the bottom 2/3rds of the fuselage will be over painted Matt Black and also much will be lost with the addition of the invasion stripes, and then added weathering, so I was not after a pristine finish here - fortunately :ha:

This definitely has the traits of a limited run kit and will need some serious modelling in places, but hey, they can't all be shake 'n' makes can they?!

Cheers
Al.

Your camo lines look nicely done 8-)
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing
