Many thanks, Fred - I've not used Ventura decals before, I appreciate the warning!

...and they arrived today!

What's nice is that serials are provided for 3 aircraft, so I don't have to use J-704, which is the same as in the Airfix kit. The other choices are -701 and -711.

Nice paintwork on both models. These should look really good together when finished.

Cheers, guys.

Not happy with the Ventura decals - they were thin but brittle, silvered and didn't want to settle properly even with Solvaset. Also, the white layer doesn't fully go to the edge of the red, so there's an odd darker ring around the insignia. AND the rudder decals were far too big for this kit - they look as if they were scaled for a 1/48 kit.....being brittle meant they didn't trim up very well, AND the white cross on the rudder was too big - little I could do about that. Not the best $13 I've ever spent......

Both are coming along but I feel I'm rushing these two too much as I've little bench time.

Not 100% happy with the colour contrast on the Emil - the two greens should be a lot closer in tone, so that they are almost indistinguishable in b+w photos. Nothing I can do about that now...

Paul,

Many years ago I used some Ventura decals on a RCAF Mustang IV. I had the same experience and they had the same darker ring around the insignia. Not good.

You are being too critical of your emil Paul, the colors look right.

Shame about the ventura decals, I'll add them to my avoid buying company list.

Don't beat yourself up to badly, Paul. Everything is looking fine to my eyes. Is there a chance of adding some red paint tothe offending edges? Maybe to bet the right match of color would be difficult.

Cheers, guys. I did touch up the rudder with some red, Jeff, but I'm not crazy about doing the edges of the wing and fuselage insignia. I'll just have to live with it.

Anyways, I added the fiddly bits and the canopies, so, technically, they are done, but I still need to add a matt varnish coat and that won't happen to the weekend. Gallery pics will also be taken then.
