Daz's Piece of Cake **FINISHED!!**

Post by DazDaMan »

My first build in this particular GB will be the Academy/Hobbycraft Hispano HA.1112M1-L Buchon.
Image

The subject is an unusual one, in that this particular Buchon is one of the very few that DIDN'T appear in the 1969 movie Battle of Britain!!
Image
D-FEHD sat out the Buchon's first starring role (not sure how, exactly) and didn't get in front of the cameras until the 1988 TV series Piece of Cake. The Buchon was used in the flying sequences along with two others (G-BOML and G-HUNN) in the paint scheme seen above. She was later used in the film Memphis Belle along with her two Piece of Cake co-stars, and in the early 1990s was restored to Bf109G-10 spec by her owner, Hans Dittes. She was operated by the Old Flying Machine Company at Duxford for a couple of years, even taking a trip to New Zealand and displaying there in 1996. She's now owned by the Messerschmitt Foundation in Germany.

Cool! I well remember that ship. Here's a couple of photos of her in that scheme from North Weald in 1988:

Interesting to note that she's wearing her registration beneath the wings in those shots - don't think I've ever seen that before!

I had originally planned to do the model as G-BOML, but didn't have a 3-blade prop assembly that would fit! :???:

I think that's possibly why I like the Buchon so much.

Wings and fuselage are currently curing, so progress on this one has been quite rapid - even with a little help from a furry friend!

Pics later....

The Buchon is now on its gear with most of its bits attached and the beginnings of a paint scheme!

I've been thinking the same thing.
You're progressing quite quickly Daz. I shall have to get a move on ;-)

Buchon progress.

First coat of camo is on.

A little rough in spots, but it'll be tidied up by tomorrow. Colours are light blue (undersides), black-green and fern green for the uppers (looked the nearest to the photographs). Prop, exhausts, canopy and aerial mast to be fitted to complete the build.

Missy's clearly exhausted from the Buchon building!

Looking good. I have discovered that the paint scheme is known as the "Overwater" camouflage scheme that was primarily adopted by Luftlotte 3 in France as they had the longest Chanel crossing.
