Jeff's Escaping Eagle****Finished****
Jeff's Escaping Eagle****Finished****
Just a tad late for the dance but I will join this group build. I am hoping this will break my very poor completion rate on group builds as of late. Breaking my promise to not join any more builds until I complete other older ones went out the window.
So to break the spell I am building the venerable Bf109G-10 by Revell/Monogram. The copywrite on the horizontal stab says 1979. I built it probably 5 times over the years and the while the moulds are breaking down, it still holds up well in the 109 market. In my eyes only the sparse cockpit really detracted from the newer "uber" kits of the 109.
"So off we go, Michaels. Read your letter from home."
The Boxart:
The innards:
The chosen subject:
The subject of this build is a Bf109G-10 flown out of Germany to Sweden on 4MAY45. Fw Petzschler took this aircraft that was fully fueled and flew to Sweden. I am uncovering a little history behind this and like all late war Luftwaffe stuff, it is debatable. But will post tidbits as I go.
Here is to luck.

One of my favorite 1/48 kits ever. It will be fun to watch you build this.

A good model is any model you can walk away from.

Here is some historical background to Fw. Horst Petzschler with photos of the subject aircraft.

Looks like it'll be nice when finished. I rather like those late-model Gustavs!

Re: Jeff's Escaping Eagle
Very enjoyable evening on the bench last night. And pleased with the effort so far.
Overview:
Some interior detail. Belts will be added with tape.
Checking the landing gear for alignment. There are very positive locator pins so you won't get lost.
Major pieces together now. A very Blitzable kit. And so far the only filler needed is where I got heavy handed withthe razor saw taking off the tail wheel. This version had the tall tail wheel.
Some more work done on the landing gear. Dry brushing and alignment striping.
So.....after three hours or so I am well on the way to a finish.

Re: Jeff's Escaping Eagle
Next update. A few more touchups and ready for taxi to paint hanger.
Pictures show this G-10 had the tall tail wheel. So out came the brass tubing and in short order a new tail wheel was made up.
So I got the tail wheel in place and it is time to dry fit everything to see what it looks like. Also, the extra stuff was added to the airframe.
Now the propellar and spinner. Painting and gloss coat was put on earlier. Decal number 33 was used for the spiral. Was not sure how this would go but after a littel work with a bud dampened with Solv-a-set, the decal settled down in good shape.
So we are looking over the paint supplies. RLM 82/75/76 are being sorted.

Now what have I done? I normally can take or leave pre-shading but due to the nature of the subject it should be a little more that war-weary.

Now the difficult fuselage part. Lots of weird patterns to contend with.
