Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
I've been reading a lot about Helicopter pilots in Vietnam in the past month, including lots on scout pilots, hence the build.
This model has the markings for an Aircraft flown by Hugh Mills - the Author of 'Low Level Hell' - A book I can recomend

I've got one of these and it was a toss up between that and the Super Cobra. Look forward to seeing this built

Stuart , I built this very one. See previous build log. Now I don't have big hands but found its small size awkward. I did have some trouble with the front bubble and the internals didn't fit all that well. Tbh it took about 6months off and on to clear it off the bench.
Best of luck.

Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
Sprue shots.
The first bit of work I can see is the removal of the Stbd doors. Scout Crews flew from the right hand side with the doors off for visibility and to counter the weight of the Minigun. So these'll have to go.
The detail of the kit is nice.
Looking forward to this, although I can't help suffer from chopper envy - lol. It is a bit small compared to the other builds in this GB.
Cheers

Thanks for the tips Shane, your build was really nice. I do agree with you, the bubble going to fun to fit and the internal fit is vague to say the least.shangos70 wrote:Stuart , I built this very one. See previous build log. I might leave the minigun off, as I'm not sure how its supposed to fit, and the details not great either...

Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
When I built mine the only problem I had was fitting the side window, but if you are taking the doors off that will sort that problem out.
Those a/c would have had a hard life in bright sunshine or heavy rain so I would go for the faded weathered look.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
I think I used faded olive drab but the klear darkend it off.
Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
I can attest to Splash's comments. The O.D. faded quickly into some rather weird shades of green. Sometimes even a brownish tinge. Each Army helicopter looked different. Then add in replacement panels and touchups with a rattle can. Just go with your gut reaction on this but don't go bright green.

Re: Stuarts Loach (OH-6A)
Thanks for the advice guys, I'll stick with what I have and see what happens.
Would advise putting some nose weight in this? Will she be a tail sitter?
