Chips KA-52 Alligator***Fin"ish"ed***
Ever since Dazzled built his KA-50 in Whirlibirds III I have wanted to have a go at one, and finally managed to get hold of the next best thing, the improved KA-52 Alligator:
I just hope this Zvezda kit goes together better than his old Dragon.

Very nice - really looking forward to this. There's something very smart about co-axials.

Re: Chips KA-52 Alligator
I have been working on this in fits a starts over the last couple of nights, and I must say I am quite impressed with the level of detail provided. Unfortunately this means that I spend more time researching the details/colours required than actually modelling.
After a couple of colour changes I have settled with an overall Panzergrey colour with Black Control Panels:
The switch and IP details were then picked out in various colours. The pilots have been painted up and the cockpit has started to go together:
The pilot figures are some of the more detailed ones that I have come across, with the seatbelts already molded on.

Re: Chips KA-52 Alligator
The cockpit is now together but it has left quite a step at the back that is going to need filling:
Evidently I did not get it lined up as well as I had thought.
Whilst this was drying I started to tackle the rotor head. I am struggling at the moment as part 16A will not fit as intended, it seems to be bent up to much, and should be more L shaped to enable it to marry up with the relevant holes/grooves.
Not sure weather to try to bend them out and risk snapping them off or scratch build something more accurate.

Nice pilots, it's a shame they don't add them to more kits.
It looks like a nice kit.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Nice work. I think that rotor head has more parts than the entire Airfix Whirlwind!

Re: Chips KA-52 Alligator
The pilots are well molded, and look quite mean too:
Some filler has been applied and sanded down smooth, but due to my poor alignment the bottom piece does not fit in flush and needed to be sanded down quite a bit:

Glad to hear it Commander, I hope I can make a good job of it then.BlohmWolf wrote:I'm Commander Blohm, and THIS is my favourite helicopter on earth!
Things have been a bit hectic of late, as we are having new carpets fitted throughout the house so my modelling time is severely restricted. I have managed to get the rear fuselage together though:
And the rotor head problem has been fixed with a bit of careful bending.

I have managed to get a few more bits stuck together as my workroom slowly gets back to the way I want it. As soon as I find the camera I will post some pics up.
