Lancfan's brace of Renault *** FINISHED ***
Another build I have planned for this GB will be based on this pair of HaT Renault FT-17 wargame models, one will be built as the French Army Tank and the other will be completed as the US Army six Ton Tank.

Interesting looking kits. A lot simpler than the Matchbox offering.

I was thinking the same, Daz - the detail looks better as well.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
I am currently gathering reference pictures to plan my builds here, the kit is simple but should scrub up well enough. I will begin work on these on Sunday morning when I have finished my second blitz build.

I also, some time ago, downloaded a working list and photos of a number of simple improvements to be made to this kit, but I can't find it on the Landships website now. I can send it to you if you wish.
Here's one I did with those improvements;
And curse you; I liked your MkIV so much I went and ordered two [and others] from Hannants.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
I have cut away the bridging tails and also the hatches needed to display added extra details, in the lower picture to the left is the M1917 which will have a full crew compartment and on the right is the FT-17 which will have a detailed engine bay.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
I really like these Renaults, it's got to be the most Tank like Tank (i.e. Looks like you would imagine a tank to look) of all the WWI tanks I've seen. i'm sure you'l work your ususal magic on them David.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
The FT-17 was the first tank designed as we would know it today with the engine at the back, the main armament in a rotating turret on top and a driver at the front, it was also the most practical tank of it's age being built within the limitations of the then current technology.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
It's time to deal with each model separately for a while starting with the crew compartment of the French FT-17. The firewall and cabin floor are cut from plastic card and glued in position, the patterned floor plating is represented by 100 grit sandpaper.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
The cabin was detailed using plastic card, balsa wood, stretched sprue & alluminium foil.
When finished and painted it began to look the part.
The halves of the hull have been glued together and are now drying.

Re: Lancfan's brace of Renault
Great job on the interior detailing. Having built a Matchbox FT17 in the past I know how small these are.
