Stuart's RFC Scouts.

A World War One GB - any subject, any scale, 1914-1918 - this is not a 1914-specific GB.
Runs 6 weeks, July 28th to September 8th, to allow plenty of time for biplanes, rigging, and holidays.

Sir T wrote:Hi Guys,

thanks for all the advice - I've made a start on the SE5a and I'll look into getting some EZ line (I think I'll go with the post build method - not sure yet).
Pics to follow but I've laid down some Humbrol 110 Natural Wood on the struts and cockpit, and over that I'll put some sepia Ink and see how it looks. I've also started on the pilot and various metalic bits. It's not a bad little kit this, mouldings a bit soft in places but it looks like it'll go together nicely.

Another question though - I just assumed it was dark green, but in actual fact its not its an olive drabby brown, with light tan-ish lowers. Can anyone suggest what would be the best humbrol colours to use?

Pics to follow.

Cheers

Stuart
I use Misterkit paints. Their range is very comprehensive but only comes in acrylic which suits me but may not be for others.

Thanks Toby - I use mainly enamals these days as I didn't get on very well with Acrylics, that being said I only used humbrols - How do you rate Misterkits?

@all - I've ordered Some Chocolate Brown and Ivory so hopefully I should get those ASAP in time for painting, so thanks guys.

Where do you get your EZ line form and what thickness would be best for 1/72?

Cheers

I'd rate them on par with Xtracrylix so pretty good.
Here is the link for the EZ line you need

EZ Line [pronounced the A-mer'can way = eee zeee]
See here; just about bottom of page.
http://www.little-cars.co.uk/list2.html;
postage charge is about £2.50/£3

For your bipes go for 3 thou in green.

It is very dear for what you get. A spool will do several/lots of bipes but for only a few?

Edit; Toby posted whilst I was typing. Thats a good link Toby. I think I'll get some of the small reels too.

You got the last two off Toby's link [?]
I saw there were two left so didn't order - I think I have a larger spool somewhere anyways

Oh sorry Fred I hadn't picked up on the fact that they only had two left  i just thought it might be an idea to order a couple of rolls as I'm certainly goign to make some mistakes and if I manage to do these I'll more than certainly be building a lot more Bi-planes (DH.4 & 9, Brisfits, 0/400 and all those lovely interwar bipes).

I can chuck you a roll when I get them if you need it.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer Stuart. Even though I may have some I've never used it. I mostly prefer monofilament fishing line.

I'm building one of these as well, Stuart. I've made a couple before but left the rigging off because, like you, I'm a rigging newbie!!

Will watch this with interest.

One of my earlier rigging shambles. That was using thicker elastic thread than EZ line!
