Good Man! I'll be interested to see how you go about rigging yours. You'll get there first I think as I'm a bit behind you.DazDaMan wrote:I, too, have secured some EZ line!
I'm going to try the post build method using CA glue and EZ line. I'm very dubious abnout my ability to drill decent holes through the model and not make a mess of it, besides I don't think my smallest drill is small enough,

.3mm is the smallest I can find and that does the trick.Sir T wrote:Good Man! I'll be interested to see how you go about rigging yours. You'll get there first I think as I'm a bit behind you.DazDaMan wrote:I, too, have secured some EZ line!

Re: Stuart's RFC Scouts.
Blooming Heck!!!
I've just spent a very 'ahem' relaxing lunch trying to get the struts into position on my SE5A - hells teeth .
What started off as me trying to get the interplane struts in, and then tape the top wing on so I could fit the struts above the fuselage (not sure what they're called) turned into a ruddy nightmare. Eventually I gave up trying to do it in stages and just glue the whole darn thing together.
Amazingly, after it's first test flight accross the car , I actually managed to get it all together, and not only that - releativly SQUARE
Fun this Biplane building thing! I won't let it beat me though - I shall keep on it until I get it.
I can only assume that after my 20th or so Biplane it'll start to make sense. What I was trying to do was get the interplanes in place with a dryfitted top wing, and then fit the others - is thatthe right technique? or should I be fitting them last?
Anyway, I have pics and they will follow - thankfully I'm brush painting so it should be ok ish to paint, even though I've glued the top wing on.
Cheers

Uhhhh.......how can I break this to you gently?......Sir T wrote:I can only assume that after my 20th or so Biplane it'll start to make sense.
I usually fit the centre section struts to get the wing in place and aligned (using a jig), then get the interplanes in after. I don't think there's any right answer though, and it depends on the kit.
Stick at it though. I'm sure it'll work out.

Yeah that might make sense. I'll try it on the next one.VickersVandal wrote:Uhhhh.......how can I break this to you gently?......Sir T wrote:I can only assume that after my 20th or so Biplane it'll start to make sense.

Re: Stuart's RFC Scouts.
Sometimes, I find a big lump of bluetac on the top of the fuselage helps. Assess amount required, put a lump of b/t on, press the top wing down onto it, place interplane struts, manoeuvre the top wing until the struts and wing are correctly aligned. Let glue set, remove b/t. Before putting on, work the b/t in your fingers, it'll become a bit softer and thus easier to squish.
Or use a lump of plasticine.

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

thats a good idea Fred - I love the 'low-tech'ness of it.fredk wrote:Sometimes, I find a big lump of bluetac on the top of the fuselage helps.
