Jeff's Pirate Blitz. Sunday 24/8/14***FINI****

Last Sunday at the local Band if Pirates meeting we had a swap shop and raffle. One of my prizes will be my blitz this Sunday. Pics to follow.

So here is what I have to work with:

Please note that I have a virgin Humbrol carving pad to break in on this blitz. Picked it up from my LMS that is ordering from Airfix/USA. He also gave me a really nice window decal of the Airfix logo.

So a google search finds that while not matching the Tamigawa standard, the Academy kit is a notch above the others. And as stated above, I obtained the kit at the last club meeting which was a swap meet/raffle. It has scribed panel lines and enough ammentities to make for a good build. I am a true believer that box art indeeds sell. I have always liked Tommy Blackburn's Big Hog and there is much reference for this aircraft in it's various guises. The color scheme is complex for a Blitz but should not cause any real issues.

So it is off to gather paints and supplies and assemble a proper blitz menu. And assemble a play list to entertain the watchers.

It looks like a nice kit and would be a good kit to practice free hand airbrush work on.

Ok, I am a little more settled in now and approaching the first hour time hack.

The cockpit is dressed up with paint and tape belts.



The fit has been perfect.



Next piece of the puzzle is the engine and wings.

I have learned the the pilot step cut out in the wing was not applied until the -D run and sense this is a -1A, the hole will be stuff with sprue.



The port side landing light was not in the moulding so I drill out the location.



And at the end of the project a MV Products lens will be added.





Finally, here is a look at the lower wing. I think some work will be needed on the three exhaust pipes that come out where the three lines are.

Hour two has gone by quickly with quite a bit done. The major bits are lying about now.

After the engine paint sets up more I will add a wash.

So far the only real filler work was on the starboard wingtip where the lower and upper piece meet. There was a sizable gap that was plugged with Squadron Green Stuff.

Off for a little breaking of the fast as it were.

Hour three is spent filling my gullet.




Bacon seems to be this Blitzbau food of choice. Who am I to argue. How else can I leave fingerprints on the plastic. A little Red Rose Tea to wash it down.

OK, the state of play is this. Holes were drilled to relocate the exhaust stacks on the belly. Sorry no pictue of that.




And I am olbliged to showe the time. Eastern Daylight for the record and I forgot to mention. This is a 24 hour blitz. The Manly Blitz.

Hour four in the bag. Started some undersurface color as the landing gear and the Brewster Bom Rack are nex up in the construction. I used Tamiya Flat white with a drop of gray to knock down the "pitch white" appearence.
