No pics today, the seats are dry and now need separating and cleaning up so that they can be glued to two strips of balsa wood for painting ready to be fitted into the cabin.
John, I did say I got carried away on this one. :-D

Have been side tracked by my ASR Lysander build which grabbed my attention and pushed the Dart Herald aside for a while and that will be finished today. The Herald is a very simple kit and it is I who has made this one complicated but that is nearly over now and the model will be back to OOB status once the fuselage halves have been joined up. Tomorrow and the weekend are all mine so that should see the build finished in plenty of time for the Tuesday end date.

The seat backs have been glued to the balsa wood strips and painted.

They have been glued into the fuselage.

The fuselage was then glued together and strapped up to dry.

This is the current state of the build, the wings and fixed tailplanes have been glued together and are now dying, the fuselage has been filled where needed, the joint lines have been cleaned off and the fuselage has been masked ready for paint.

Thanks shangos, I didn't originally intend to fit out the interior but got a little carried away, also I found a number of problems with this kit caused I am sure by poor care, storage and maintenance of the tools post Frog. The use of black plastic on a subject which was mostly white has also slowed this down, given the condition of the parts and the baffling use of two contrasting colours to mould the parts I think this boxing was produced on the cheap using moulds which needed serious repair, some areas were short shot, the wings showed marks indicative of extensive water damage and the cowling and nacelle areas of the tool were I think really quite rusty before the tool was prepped and installed in the machine.

My mate flew to Jersey (from Dublin) on a BIA Herald in 1974. Heralds were regulars into Dublin operating Dublin-Blackpool, Dublin-Ronaldsway and Dublin-Chanel Islands flights.

The wings and nacelles have been assembled, some detail has been added to try to fill the empty look of the wheel bays.
Image

Both wings painted and ready for assembly.
Image

The fuselage and tailplanes assembled, painted and decalled.
Image

The wings were then joined to the fuselage and the joint was then filled and sanded down.
Image
Image

The joint was then re-painted followed by final assembly to complete the model as British Island Airways Handley Page HPR-7 Dart Herald 209 G-AVEZ.

For me also Eric, I am sad that 'EZ was not saved, instead she was sent to Norwich Airport for rescue training and was a complete airframe for many years- now she is just a fuselage, sat on the ground with the windows covered over with metal plates.
