So, there's a lot of paint on this beast now. Many many thin coats. The gloss nature of the Xtracrylics paint is great at highlighting where the surface isn't smooth. A quick local sand and then a few more coats of paint and the paint finish is good as new. Xtracrylics is quite forgiving like that.

So, sky finished, DSG finished and 1 coat of EDSG added. Progress this evening has not been helped by painting the port <Edit: Starboard, d*mn it! Starboard /Edit> wing scheme in reversed colours. So, another couple of coats of DSG and then repaint the EDSG. I don't think you'd be able to tell, although I doubt much of the scribing will be visible when I'm finished. Here it is:



Tomorrow will start with a couple more coats of EDSG, some detail painting and then it's almost time for decals. This won't be finished in time for the end of the GB, but given the work that's gone into it: a) I'm not surprised, and b) I don't want to b**ger it up by rushing to finish at this stage.

I have extended the end date till Friday so don't rush the finish.

The extension is good news. Although I'm still not promising to finish, I'll give it a shot. Camo finished, although some touching up will be required:



Wheels / tyres are done and prop hubs / tips also. The seat is in place, although not glued, and it fits OK. I still need to fashion a control column and then I can get the glazing on. The canopy is a good fit, with hopefully only a little pva being required around the edges. The observer's cupola is not so good. However, it should improve when I remove the rear bit, as required for the aircraft I'm modelling. No VGO gun has come to light, but I'll do without and, if necessary, install one sometime later.

Tomorrow, control column and decals if I'm feeling up to it.

So, by the original end date for the GB, here's where I got to:





So: straps painted and seat installed; control column built (lead wire bent into a 'spectacle' shape and plastic rod); prop blades painted / hubs re-painted ; false rib in landing light recess shaped from styrene sheet, added and painted; undercarriage bays painted; decalling started.

Here's the underside. The belly is somewhat featureless as I didn't bother scribing over all the filler down there. Some black decal rectangles for the cannon shell outlets will be added. Creative weathering and maybe some pencil lines will probably also be added downstream.



That Yahu instrument panel really is a lovely piece of kit. Now if they'd bring some out for other classic kits (there is a Spit Mk IX one out as well) . . .

Well that's as far as I got. The obligatory photograph, looking not dissimilar to the previous few I daresay. I have managed to get the vacform canopies on although, as you can see, the observer's cupola is still drying. 'Little Light' lenses have been installed as landing lights and the wheels and undercarriage stays have also been added. Some more decals have been applied, and I have begun to paint a sheet of clear decal paper to make cannon trough covers and canopy framing.



Lots of sticky out bits to be added, some detail painting (collector rings) to be done and the rest of the decals to be applied. I reckon another week's worth, given other priorities. I'll finish it off in my WW thread.
