Less is more sometimes. Will you be putting the pilot in, as this will busy up the cockpit a bit for you.

Thanks for comments dwomby, Molly and Tim.
Fuselage now together with a very small amount of filler, wings together also. Progress should be quicker now.
No not using the pilot, usually only do that if I'm doing gear up.Molly-new wrote:Less is more sometimes. Will you be putting the pilot in, as this will busy up the cockpit a bit for you.

A bit of an update from the weekend.
Wings were a perfect fit, and as a number of people have remarked lately in builds I'm soon at the point where you start to feel you are getting somewhere.

This is looking excellent, great work on the 'pit too. I've always had a hankering for this kit, the box art and colourful decals really appeal to me. Can't wait to see it done.
I love a simple, small 1/72nd kit where it comes together quickly so one can concentrate on the bit that will be the most seen, a decent overall paintjob.
Some of the new Airfix releases are actually a little daunting for me, such a high parts count for such a small model! I guess that's why I'm a bit of a CBKer, and I do love these old Frog kits a lot.
Really looking forward to this one despondman, keep us posted!
I have to agree with you Splash mate. I can understand complex details in the larger scales where it will be quite noticeable, but in 1/72nd it's really not needed a lot of the time.splash wrote:I like the way the old frog kits had a small parts count and built quickly, some times I think modern kits are a bit over complicated with detail just for the sake of it.

Re: despondman's Lavochkin La-7
Thanks all for your comments - much appreciated.
I decided to paint this kit in the colours that novokits identified taken from the Eduard instructions for their La-7.
The instructions described the colours as grey and dark sea grey. A quick look around the interweb showed a lack of agreement on the strength of the 2 greys, and a suggestion that in real life the colours could significantly fade. The consensus is that there is no consensus, with several people suggesting you just go with looks good for you. So to try and make my mind up I tested some greys on one of the wings, there being a lighter option for the 2 greys and a darker one, and so far...I'm still undecided.

Ah, the great colour debate. I always think it is best to go with what you feel is right to suit you, it is your model at the end of the day. When I was in charge of painting our vehicles for Op Granby the one's we did on the Monday were quite a different shade to the one's we did on the Friday, and a lot neater too

really, it's vacation, and don't follow the dogma. In the Air Force Museum in Monino it all painted in gray on top and bottom in blue.

Things are looking a bit different now, I have painted the kit in light grey and will add the darker grey later to complete the camouflage pattern.
