Tom's Shark **Finished**

Post by TomW »

Okay so I'm going to have a go at this now almost forgotten aircraft, one of those that thanks to FROG's perchant for the oddball British subjects can still be built.

Box Art:

The colour paint guide:

Im going to do the land based trainer for something a little different:

The parts count is pretty high for a FROG kit and a fair few have come adrift from the sprues in the last 40 or so years, should be a test of my 'locate and cement' skills :ha: :

Finally the rather large instruction sheet, decals and a replacement Aeroclub Pegasus engine:

Looking forward to seeing this. I got a Wallace recently but plumped for the Wildcat for this GB

 I've got a Shark too! Grrr. That's rather nice box art for a FROG kit - they never featured in the Box Art builds.

Alright then guys we've started work down here on the Shark and I can confirm that it is a very nice kit to build so far  , there has been a fair bit of flash to cleanup but nothing that a sharp scapel blade cant deal with. The location points are very fine for a kit of this vintage and this no doubt contributed to the number of parts that had come loose during storage. Luckily they are all there!

I've only had an hour or two each night this week but progress has been fairly swift:

Image

Beacause there are so many construction stages and subassemblies I'm trying to work in a modular fashion, prepping several stages in advance to hopefully make the job easier. I am going to have to deviate from the suggested sequence in order to paint the darned thing because it'll be impossible to do once all the struts and wings are in place

I'm trying to be OOB as much as poss with this one too, the only addition is this Pegasus engine from Aeroclub, a little trimming and it fits neatly in the cowling, it does look to not be centered properly but that is because I need to thin out one side of the cowling by about a millimeter:

Next up is to attach and align the lower wings, fill and sand the small gaps and get painting.

Good spot Novo ;-) the Pegasus was fitted to the Shark III and not to the Shark II but I haven't managed to find a replacement Tiger radial.

Its been a bit of a slow week for modelling thanks to work but I am still making good progress with the Shark. The lower wings are now fitted and filled. The three sections of the upper wing are now as one and I have started the paintwork. A different sequence to my normal approach but the biplane configuration and complex struttery require me to try something else:
