It's not the best Spitfire kit but it's not the worst I have seen on the market :-D

The V1 is good and the pair look brilliant on the double stand.

I had thought about getting hold of the Spitfire Ia/Va and the Messerschmitt 109F to make a dogfight double, but as I'd done them last year, I decided to go with something different!

Am I imagining it, or was there another boxing of this in the mid-1990s? I seem to recall a Spit XIV and V1 that I built then - subsequently lost at some point!

Was it the version that had the sharks mouth decals?

The box art had the a/c coming towards you with the V1 exploding behind.

I converted mine into a Seafire.

Don't think so, no. Definitely a Mk.XIV - the decals were DL-V, as I recall.

Frog made three Spitfire kits, the earliest was the mark 1a/5a kit with markings for Douglas Baders' 5a W3185 and a 1a aircraft of 19 sqdn, P9386, it was also the first Spitfire kit to include the wing walkways and stencils. Next up came the Mark 14 and flying bomb and the last kit to be released was the dual mark 8/9 kit which included markings for the RAAF "Grey Nurse" with sharks teeth.

The last of which, despite porky tendencies from some angles, makes up into a nice little model:

In that case, then, I've never built the Mk.VIII/IX kit!

I did the Mk.Ia not so long ago - will post a pic of that later.

Looking at that, it must be the Eastern Express version I built - I remember the model's second scheme was not camouflaged.

The Spitfire and V-1 have arrived, and look in good order! I've got an Airfix Spit Vb and the Revell SE5a to finish off, so I shall crack on with these two on Monday!

Looking forward to it, seems strange without a Spit around. :-D

Well, you might be in luck, as it happens that I've won a Frog Mk.VIII/IX Spitfire on eBay! :-D

If it arrives in time, I might be able to add another Spitfire to the Frog pond...! ;-)
