Based on what I can find on the internet, it looks like there should be some sort of exhaust in that location, just not that large.

Also, here's a link to the theme for the show you mentioned, with some excellent filming of Mirages in flight. Very cool.

The hole is for the rocket booster and should not be filled unless the particular IIIB you are modelling didn't have it (it was removable). I used it in the Mbox IIIC for a stand like you propose. I glued some tube in there.

That's a very cool Mirage David. I am keeping my eye out for one but they seem to go for silly prices on line. I will use mine for a stand too. I have just read that the Mirage was intended to have a rocket booster but by the time it became operational the threat from high level bombers had passed. In later models it became a fuel tank & chaff dispenser.

Thanks for the link Mjatx, brings back some great memories.

Nice work so far. Good to see that it goes together well as I have one in the stash.

Got some paint on yesterday & a coat of klear.

Image

I decided to make use of that hole.... Stuck a tube up there for the stand.

Image

Seats & pilots are just about ready to go in the tub. I have also started on the nose replacing the kit supplied pitot tube. It was way too thick so I plan to replace it with a suitably blunt needle.

More pics tomorrow.

If you're building a French machine, the nose probe may need to be thick because 10 machines had dummy IFR probes there.

Thanks for the heads up David but I am doing a South African Air Force trainer.

I did read up about those with IFR probe in the nose. I wonder why it never became standard? One of the criticisms of the Mirage III is its lack of range, that's why they nearly always carry external tanks which in turn reduces the ordnance load.

Slow progress on the Mirage but she is coming together at last.

The refurbished nose section is painted & attached:

Image

The shape is better & the pitot tube much thinner. Still needs another coat of black paint.

The red tail has been painted. I was going to use Tamiya XF-7 flat red was a little too vivid so I ended up using Vallejo Gory Red.

Image

I think its much closer to the original:http://www.saairforce.co.za/seed/public ... _large.jpg

The seats & pilots are just about ready to be installed too.

Image

I still need to weather the seats & add those black & yellow loops on the head rest. Tamiya tape seat harness too.

I hope to get the pit closed up in the next few days then on to decaling. Which could be a challenge as I am using a mixture of very old declas. :???:

Slow progress of late sorry, life getting in the way again.

I did manage to finish off the cockpit though. Nothing grand but enough to trick the eye & far better than the empty space Matchbox provided.

Canopy has been attached so I will start to decal tonight.

Nice work OT. Matchbox cockpits are always a challenge but you've risen to it well :)
