despondman's Mig-15bis **Finished**

Post by despondman »

I was keen to enter this GB but given other commitments this month was not sure if I had time to in addition to the the Frog GB.
The simple answer is to do a HobbyBoss easy build kit, so I am going to do the HobbyBoss Mig-15bis Fagot 1/72.
There are 2 colour schemes and I am going to do the one depicted in the box art.

Great choice of kit & a classic early jet.

I certainly thing so, spot on shape wise IMHO. Airfix made a big boob with the lack of the change of angle at the wing root trailing edge. This is very apparent to anyone who knows what it should look like, maybe its because the fuselage is too fat. Enough Airfix bashing, it is an entry level kit after all.

This Hobbyboss kit is a real gem. Hear is one I made earlier:

I am sure you will enjoy this build.

Nice one O_T! Hope I can get the same 'character' in mine that you have captured.

Here are the sprue, decal and instruction shots. The large sprue is the biggest I have ever seen in a HobbyBoss easy build kit.

Strewth that's huge by HB standards. I shall have to get mine out so to speak and build it.

Lol...

Looks a nice kit, I've never seen one of theae easy build models - how do the big parts look in terms of warpage etc?

Cheers

There are a lot of parts for an easy-build kit. There seems to be something of a cockpit interior too.

The big parts have no warpage at all, and a quick dry fit shows they will go together perfectly.

Yes there is more of a cockpit than there has been on previous HobbyBosses I have done, and I imagine anyone inclined could produce a quite a decent cockpit out of this.

My experience of HobbyBoss kits has been very positive, the plastic they use is the hard type with fine detail and normally good parts fit. I don't recall anyone commenting on any warping.

The only problems I have found is the decals don't like microset, they go all soft and roll up and the HobbyBoss instructions will give you misleading painting and decal instruction's, for example in their Seahawk instructions it tells you to put the a/c large serial numbers on the upper wing surfaces

Apart from that, think of them as modern day, Matchbox kits.

I agree with splash on this, I have made several HobbyBoss kits and they have all been nice and fun builds. They are also cheap and great for blitzing. I have been fortunate not to have had any decal problems that I can recall using DecalFix.

The cockpit is now attached to the lower fuselage. The instructions say nothing about putting any weight in the nose, I have added all that I can under the cockpit.

Looks great so far. I must say I'm quite impressed with this kit and being a fan of all things Mikoyan Gurevich I think I feel temptation creeping up on me. ;-)

Small amount of progress over the weekend, firstly wings in place, and then upper fuselage with a small amount of filler on a number of the seams.
