This is a Biggles-centric GB -- any kit, in any scale, of any aircraft -- as long as it was, or could be, part of the "Biggles universe". Given that book text often differed from cover art, artistic license is given ....
This GB started from threads here and previously here.
The GB runs from September 1st to 30th; your GBL is VickersVandal who will fill in any other info and be final arbitrator.

Hi Guys.
I'm in, but I haven't got a clue with what yet. Maybe a sopwith Camel, it might be a Typhoon in SEAC markings - not sure yet....
edit - Typhoon it is....
Cheers

I'd need to read some of the books first.
Heathen that I am I've only read one, and that a few years ago. AFAIR he flew a Spitfire in some desert WW2 story.

Well, it's jolly good to see you chaps here! Can't wait to see some of these builds coming through. David (lancfan) has been doing a sterling job of posting up ideas and information resources. Good show old lad!
Thanks also to jRatz for setting this all up for us.
I've dragged the Auster out of the stash for build 1 and am now tossing up between flying boats for no. 2

Oh very well then
I'll never repair the first one I made (and my toddler promptly unmade) so I might as well make a new one.
I had been tossing up between a Sunderland (Biggles Chinese Puzzle) and a Sikorsky S-43 (Biggles Flies West) but if the Vandal will be a crowd pleaser, then that's what it'll be.

(however, please make what ever you wish as the Sunderland and Sikorsky would be very cool as well, and I wouldn't want you making something you didn't feel like because of a comment I'd made (abiet in good humor) - it's your build afterall )

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I know nowt about these stories, having only ever read one.
However as I do like Whifs and such this GB sounds like fun.
I see Biggles had a connection to some twin amphy jobbies in the Police stories.
Please guide me on this; to the names of these stories so I may attempt to buy copies to read and if you think an Airfix Grumman Widgeon could be sorted to represent one of these aforementioned aeroplanes.

Hi Fred,
In 'Biggles Delivers the Goods' they actually use a Grumman Widgeon/Gosling (It ends up being shot down by a couple of Zeros). It was one I toyed with doing at one point (in SEAC camo).
Go for it.
Cheers

Perfeck, I shall have to read the story for 'research' purposes.Sir T wrote:Hi Fred,

Re: Sign-up and Chat
OK, I have gone walkabout on the internet, chasing 'tween wars Biggles.
Simple solution seems to be the Launcester Lance from Biggles goes to War.
I found images of the original 1938 edition with a dust jacket showing something like a Bulldog or Gauntlet, but a frontispiece looking like a Fury. Subsequent searching indicated most people think one (or more) of those might be correct - and in fact our own illustrious GBL has done the Fury version here on UAMF in last year's Matchbox GB.
So, I propose to make a Laun.Lance using some or all of the 3 mentioned aircraft. I am thinking a Gauntlet with an engine like a Bulldog, maybe gear from the Fury. I'll know more in a few days when I can spend some time with the kits.
I also ordered a copy of the book (not an original, thank you) just to see what was said & get my head in the game ....
See you in a few days ....

Re: Sign-up and Chat
To convert a Gladiator to a Gauntlet one uses the u/c from a Hawker Demon or Fury, they are almost the very same.
