My second kit will be an early P-51B aircraft used by the Swiss AF, the model will be this Academy P-51B kit and I will use Esci roundels. .

On opening the box I find the sprues to be perfect with no flash and superbly engraved details and panel lines, looking at the selection of stores and other optional parts there will be pieces left over as well.

The interior has been painted and the cockpit built up ready for assembly, on the left is the respectable selection of stores that come with this kit, none of these will be needed for this model so they can all go into my spares box.

The fuselage sections and wing have been assembled and are now left to dry.

Some Bs and Cs had the spine we normally associate with the D. AccMin did the same with their 1/48 kits.

The wing is here dry fitted to check for fit, it clicked into position with no gaps and no adjustment needed, the next job will be to clean up the fuselage seams and then glue the wing in place.

Looks as if the fit is excellent on this one.

I have now glued the wing in place and it didn't need any tape or clamps, it just clicked into place perfectly. I am now working on separating the elevators from the tailplanes for that 'at rest' look with the elevators resting on the bottom control stops.

With the airframe complete it is now time to paint it, the seams were lightly painted in grey to check for faults and the cockpit was masked up.
Image

The model was next primed in grey.
Image

The white areas were airbrushed on and then masked off, paper sleeves were then slid onto the outer wings ready for the inner wings to be sprayed in Revell 99 Aluminium.
Image

The inner wings were then sprayed in Revell 99 Aluminium and when it was dry the wing root line was masked off, paper sleeves were slid onto the inner wings ready for the for the fuselage to be painted in a slightly darkened shade of the same colour. When this was done the red was then sprayed onto the wings but this covered so poorly I continued with this and the fuselage panels by brush.
Image

The OD anti-glare panel was brushed on, the masking removed and final touching in was done to make the model ready for decals and final assembly.
