despondman's Morane Saulnier D-3801 **Finished**
I'm building the Morane Saulnier D-3801 from RS Models.
Never made a RS Models kit before so looking forward to see what it is like.
There are three paint options with this kit. I plan to do top one depicted on the back of the box.
I do like the squiggly white on green though and am very tempted to do that one, however I also like the red and white stripes of the top option.
Maybe squiggly white will have to wait for another day.

Very cool! I agree that the squiggles would look very nice, and different, but the candy stripes are also a great option - and just as challenging in their own way.
I have a walkaround of the one at the Dubendorf museum which I'll post after we get back from our weekend away.

Interesting choice. You could do one half squiggles and the other striped
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto

Re: despondman's Morane Saulnier D-3801
Slow progress so far but as soon as the fuselage and wings are together things should move forward quite quickly.
I have only been modelling a couple of years and most of the models I have made have been pretty straight forward with few, if any adjustments needed. Even the few old models I have done have been pretty good. Whilst this model is not a bad model it isn't a fall together model and little bits of work are required here and there. One point to note is that there are no location pins, but also for many parts, so far anyway, the exact position where parts fit together is not clear (compared for example to an Airfix Hurricane I am also making at the moment where everything easily slots into a very specific location).
So far I have largely completed the cockpit. I glued the white tab at the front to help with fitting the 2 parts together in the absence of the location pins.
The wings come with one lower wing and 2 lots of upper wings, this kit has other unused parts so obviously can be used for a different version. One pair of upper wings have a bulge mid-wing (sorry if there is a technical term I do not know it), and the others do not, see photo below. You use the upper wing without the bulge. However the lower wings have the bulges and they have to be removed, photo shows bulges removed as didn't take pre-bulge photo.

The fit of the wings to the fuselage is pretty good. Next up is the red and white striping.

Nice going, d-man. You are finding out the potential pitfalls of the short-run kit, but you are making a very good fist of it!

Thanks tonp.
The stripes are now complete. Not perfect, but they didn't come out too bad.

Paintwork is now complete, next will be the decals, before adding the landing gear and smaller items.
The canopy was a good fit.
