HobbyCraft MS410

Post by jssel »

Swiss Air Force Commander note to self. "Let's take whatever flies over our border and make an Air Force out of it."

My build will be the Hobbycraft MS-410. HobbyCraft takes some knocks and rightfully so. But i have build up a few of their kits and the finished product after a little TLC is quite passable. Let's see what happens here.

The Box Art:

I got this kit a long time ago in a raffle. You can see the red tickets in the next picture.

The innards:

But what surprised me is in the next picture.

Extra Bits:

How did I forget that?

So come on October 1. I am ready to carve yet more plastic.

Well, after midnight we're going to let it all hang out. Some pre-lim work on the build.

Resin bits removed from the pouring stubs.

I was disappointed as the pilots seat was short shot I believe. There was a large notch out of the pilots seat. There was no scraps in the poly bag so with some careful filing, I trimmed back the seat. It may be shorter but at least it's even.

Wing work.

The gun bulges in the wings had to be removed as the kit is actually the 406. I will knead up some epoxy putty (Milliput) to stuff in the holes.

Wing overview.

Going to drop the flaps on this one.

Nice resin - seems to capture the look of the real thing rather well.

Thanks Paul. True Details, I have found, can be hit or miss on quality. This set is a little on the rough side but better than the kit offering.

Finally wrangling out an update.

Resin cockpit insert is completed. All in all the design was excellent as it sits in a tray on the lower wing piece. The only adjustment was to slide the cockpit fore or aft to align it with the fuselage halves. It worked very well. Test fit of the fuselage halves shows no problems.

Milliput was added to fill the large holes in the wings where the former gun breech bulges were located for the MS406. This morning they were rock solid and tonight I hope to file away the excess and add filler where needed.

Back on track and progressing well.

That's a good start. Cutting resin always fills me with dread. Glad to see you've mastered the art

I have been on the road for a few days and have carried the SD card thinking I could update my build. Finally today I can do it.

The Milliput cleaned up well with only a little touch up to do.

An now the main frame is completed.

So we are pressing on with no really worries. Horizontal stabilizers are now added,

Thanks for looking.

I have a travel kit but after about 1200 miles this trip, I read about two pages of SAMI or AMW and I am down for the count.

Home now and enjoying real bench time.
