Yes, I have to finish up on the Frog GB first but should be able to get to this one tomorrow, this is the only option with this kit but they do also make a Royal Navy version for the same price (£4.99)

Despite it's age and allowing for the abundance of very thin flash present on the sprues this ex. Frog kit really isn't bad but the canopy is thick and will need some polishing and a dip before it is to be fitted.
The sprues are now washed ready for Saturday.

The ex-Frog Sea Venom is a nice little kit. The nose has lots of space for weights so its any easy kit to stop tail sitting.

It's now time to start on this model, it has been many years since I last saw one of these, then of course it was in a Frog box and came in grey plastic and looking at this new IOM-KIts incarnation of the same model I would say that time (and those who have cared for the tool down through the years) have been kind to it. There is some flash, but it is very thin and is confined to the parts shown below, it was so thin that it barely interfered with the removal of the parts from the sprue and the bulk of it remained on the sprues, what remained came away with one light pass of a scalpel with the parts laid flat on the cutting board. Edge definition of the smaller parts is generally good and these are flash free. The picture below shows the affected parts after removal from the sprues but before cleaning up.


The first thing I will work on is the cockpit which is a typically bare Frog 'office' The grey seats in the picture are from the new tool Airfix Vampire T.11 and are very similar to those fitted to the Sea Venom/Aquilon, the biggest difference is in the shape of the headrest/drogue housing. As I intend to make at least another five of these models I will not use these seats up here, instead I will modify one seat and take a pair of Miliput moulds from it in order to make new Das Clay seats for this model and also for future Sea Venom builds. The inside of the cockpit area of the fuselage pod has been thinned down to enlarge the cockpit to a more manageable size for the new details that will be scratched for it.

I have been dealing with real life a lot lately and although I have had bench time I have not had the computer time to prep. pictures and report on my build so here we go, this is the build so far-
The floor unit/rear decking and IP have been scratched from car filler and plastic card.


The main cockpit parts laid out ready for assembly and paint.


The basic cockpit fitted to one half of the fuselage after painting.


The fuselage, wings and booms have been assembled and the booms joined to the wings, this was done to make filling the step at the wing/boom joins easier.


When the filler had dried and the booms were sanded smooth the wings were then fitted to the pod.


Next the tailplane was fitted.


Then the canopy was fitted.


Since taking these shots the airframe has been primed with a brushed wash of a dark blue grey ready for the top colour.

This is the model at midnight, so near to completion but no coconut.
But! it will be finished tomorrow in Aviation modelling.
