The Flying Shed aka Amiot 143

Post by fredk »

Its gotta be one of the ugliest things that ever flew. I wont even grace it with the name aeroplane. The Amiot 143.
I shall attempt to build it.

It looks like even Heller didn't like it. Normally Heller kits are full of detail, such as good cockpits. This shed, despite all the glazing, has absolutely nothing inside. Even the 'engines' look rather not at all present. T'inner-tent research is needed for this one.

Excellent! The Heller Amiot 143. The lack of any interior for all that glazing was the reason I didn't build mine when it first arrived. Just marked down for further extensive research. Now you'll be doing all the work for me... So I'll definitely keep an eye on this build. Many thanks :-D

Gotta agree that is one ugly mother of a plane. I guess aerodynamics was in its infancy when that hit the designers drawing board.

Hideous. I would install a bar in the glazed area. That would at least give the 1:1 item some redeeming qualities.

The under-slung greenhouse would be good for growing French Onions

OK, it's not that pretty but it is an interesting model.

Looking forward to seeing this one.

I scoured the web some years ago for Amiot 143 photos, for my own project - one day..... Anyways, these might be of use:

(Apologies if I have stepped on someone's copyright - I downloaded these about 10 years ago and have no idea where I got them.....)

Just a little bit done; the wheel units are made up, and work on the wings. I notched out the leading edge of each, glued in a bit foil and then clear sprue which was then filed to shape for the landing lights. There are no engines for the cowlings and if one looks even half closely one can see the void, so I dug out some resin engines and filed them down to fit; totally wrong number of cylinders and type of engine, but they are only to fill the emptiness.

I've been studying photos of the interior on the innertent. Thankfully a couple of French modellers have put their work up and I've copied their photos to my files for reference and copying.

A little bit has been done on this. I've been finishing off some other models, so maybe this week I can get back on to this one.
