Re: Titan's Sdkfz. 232
Thanks Stuart and Nigel and I have been getting on with some painting today.
To add some chips and scrapes I dabbed some masking fluid on a scrap of sponge over areas that were suitable and then sprayed a coat of afrika Korps sand grey over the top.
Once the paint had cured I simply rubbed over the areas with the masking fluid with my finger to remove the maskol.
There are a couple of areas that will need addressing and then I will overspray with a thin mix of sand grey.
I will then give it a couple of brown filters before a coat of klear ready for the next phase of weathering.
Regards
Mark

Re: Titan's Sdkfz. 232
Lovely work on that weathering Mark.
I really like that masking fluid technique and have often wondered about using it on an aircraft – i.e. Painting it aluminium, applying Masking fluid and then putting the camo and Decals over the top.
It’s an interesting build, Germany certainly had some interesting looking armoured cars. I wonder what its performance was like in the sand.
Will you be painting the figures?
Cheers

Re: Titan's Sdkfz. 232
Thanks Stuart, I've never used making fluid on aircraft as I use an old bit of sponge to apply it and so there is not much control with it, fine for armour but not aircraft...I tend to use a fine tipped paint brush or a silver pencil for those.
As for painting the crew ...well I will paint them but they are a bit weedy so may not include them....I'll decide towards the end of the build.
I have made quite a bit of progress of the past three days but was unable to post as work was getting in the way...I've added some of the decals but still trying to find some suitable for the AK palm tree insignia so have left them off for now but if I cannot find anything soon I will have to go with the kits decals.
I've given the model four layers of filiters, streaks, a coat of klear and then added the decals.
The turret has also been added..and weathered.
More later.
Regards
Mark

Re: Titan's Sdkfz. 232
Front armour plate added but will need a few dings and scratches on it.
Wheels have had a couple of filters and a brown wash.
And the tyres have had a dusting of buff for that just been through the desert look.
Radio equipment added and weathered.
The rest of the hangy offy stuff will be added next and then the whole model will be given a mixture of a dust wash and then a spray coat which should blend everything together and then it will get a flat coat to take the shine off it.
P.S. The rest of the decals will be applied before the above takes place.

Looking very nice. I like the dusty weathering. If you need some Afrika Korps decals I'm fairly sure I'd have some from an old Tamiya 35th scale kit lying around somewhere.

That's a supurb build Mark - and you've done a really nice job of the painting/weathering.
It's a beast of an armoured car that wouln't look out of place in a mad max film

Re: Titan's Sdkfz. 232
Thanks all...
It's a pretty easy build and everything just goes together well which probably accounts for the speed of the build...
Well the plan today was to get the 232 completely finished as I am going to be busy for the next 3 or 4 days, but I couldn't quite manage it.
I have added both light guards, turn signals, gas cans, mufflers and screens, all four clearance markers, tow cable, axe, pick and shovel. all of the lights were added which had gem lenses inserted and the left side clearance marker has got a real mirror on it. I also managed to get the dust coat on it which faded the number plates and blended everything together.
Things I couldn't get done today are grime under the chassis, adding the helmets and a flat coat on the completed model, I may be able to get this done over the next 3 or 4 days if work/time permits.
Here is what she looks like now.

That is very kind of you Nigel but I think that in this case I will leave them off( not all DAK vehicles had the palm tree insignia from what I have seen )Clashcityrocker wrote: If you need some Afrika Korps decals I'm fairly sure I'd have some from an old Tamiya 35th scale kit lying around somewhere.

I think you could be right with over two weeks to go in this GB I suppose I'd better.tonp wrote: To set it off now, you will have to build a little dio.

Looking suitably sunbaked. Are the engine covers staying off?
