Going with this I found lurking in my stash.
The KP Yak 23 Flora. Never made a KP kit before so it'll be a new experience for me.

Re: Toby's flowery Yak
I like the subject Toby. KP kits are a mixed bag. They generally try a bit too hard IMHO, including detail parts that are a bit beyond their moulding capabilities. That said, I've built a few and, with a bit of patience and perhaps some etch/resin, they can be built very nicely indeed. I'm not familiar with this partcular kit but a quick look on scalemates reveals that it's been around since 1981 and that Pavla produce a resin detail set for it

Cockpit done if a little crude but that won't show once it's in and closed up. I hope

Very nice Toby. Is this the kit cockpit?

Yes. I was pleasantly surprised. There's a lot of flash to be dealt with elsewhere though.Dazzled wrote:Very nice Toby. Is this the kit cockpit?

Re: Toby's flowery Yak
Fuselage joined up with some filling required however when I did this last night I forgot to place the small window behind the cockpit. Whoops
Looks like some Glue n Glaze will be needed after the spraying is done. Anyone used it before? Any tips?

I've used Humbrol Clearfix before which, I assume, is broadly similar. You just start at edge with a blob and work towards the centre with a circular motion withdrawing your chosen tool with a twist at the end to prevent a bump forming.
That's a very nice cockpit for a kit supplied one BTW. Obviously this is one of KPs better kits

Re: Toby's flowery Yak
Ta. The cockpit is good however the canopy is a nightmare and it's going to take a lot of work to make it look half decent. I may just get this over and done with and go for a Hobbyboss Mig 15. On the other hand I might go to the pub and never come backDazzled wrote:I've used Humbrol Clearfix before which, I assume, is broadly similar. Nice work so far. Hope you don't have too much trouble with the sanding.

Re: Toby's flowery Yak
Unfortunately the fit is so poor and my attempts at sanding and then filing and then cutting and finally jumping up and down on it haven't helped so I'm binning this
