Thanks for that info, Dazzled, though If you find any, snap it up; Floquil paints are no longer produced.Dazzled wrote: I have heard that Floquil Jade Green is the correct shade too but I have no idea if they can be bought in the UK.

They have some nice colour sets. I added up the cost of converting to acrylics... it's not cheap!TobyC wrote:Coastal craft now have a website!!

I made some progress last night but didn't take any photos. It was just 45 minutes of sanding and filing. Hopefully i'l get the chance to stick more bits on tonight.

They're very nice paints to airbrush and Martin at Coastal Craft is spot on the ball getting them delivered. If you like building Soviet stuff they're a worthwhile investment.Blueberryruby wrote:They have some nice colour sets. Re: Blueberryruby's East German Mi-24 Hind D
I stuck some more parts on last night. I mostly focused on the stubby wings and the main rotor blades....
Overall the model is really clean but there was this bit that needed filling...
The rotor blade assembly has some really really small parts! Thankfully they give you one spare one
It has 14 parts in total....
It's starting to take shape.
I'm concerned about the canopy. I really need to fix it in place before priming it but i'm really bad at masking canopies, I'm worried that i'll mess it up and ruin the canopy. I'll just have to take my time and do it very slowly

One spare. How generous
That looks like a labour of love to me. Well done.

I agree but you could put all your enamels on Ebay and they'd sell. For what is another question.Blueberryruby wrote:They have some nice colour sets. I added up the cost of converting to acrylics... it's not cheap!TobyC wrote:Coastal craft now have a website!!

That's really looking good, nice job eliminating the ejector pin marks on the outer pylons.
I can empathize with your canopy masking struggles, my builds always stall there too. What will you mask it with? Are you going to airbrush or brush paint the model?

Thanks. It also came with a spare rotor blade! One spare. How generous

Really? I hadn't thought of that. But it would still cost me quite a bit.... I have a lot of different paints! I might have to do it as I go.... if i take the plunge that is....I agree but you could put all your enamels on Ebay and they'd sell. For what is another question.
i was thinking of cheating and using maskol instead. I've used it for other models but never for a canopy and the whole thing is going to be brushed. TobyC has yet to succeed peer pressuring me in to getting an air brush, although i am very close to doing it. I have a B-58 that i really want to do but can only paint it with an airbrush! That's really looking good, nice job eliminating the ejector pin marks on the outer pylons.
Thanks, that was the only really obvious one, the others filed out without any issues.

I'm sure Maskol will work just fine. Eduard used to make a canopy-mask set for this kit, but it's no longer in production, though you could maybe pick one up on eBay.
Have you seen Gengriz's brush painted B-29 in the 'Aviation Modelling' section?I have a B-58 that i really want to do but can only paint it with an airbrush!

Funnily enough i was just looking at that, he's done a great job on it but i want to use Alclad to make it look super metal like. Anything else just wouldn't look right.Migrant wrote:I'm sure Maskol will work just fine. Re: Blueberryruby's East German Mi-24 Hind D
This weekend i have most been painting.
Primer...
Base colour....
Camo scheme....
I didn't get the paint match for the "light grey green" right. The instructions say to use Humbrol 95 but it doesn't exist! The camo coat needs another coat.
