That's looking really good Darryl! The extra PE in the cockpit has paid off - it looks good.

I do like the Mig-29s - they are very purposeful aircraft. If I'd have had more time to apply to this GB i would have liked to do the Airfix kit with the polish markings.

Looking forward to see it continue :-)

Cheers

Thanks guys.

Well, more progress at last. To be honest, the de-stressing chair has been a godsend today.

And the -29 has made another leap forward.

Post masking and a coat of XF-20 as a primer there turned out to be little to correct after filling; just, as I expected, half a dozen panel lines, lost in sanding, to redefine.

Image

This meant that today I could paint the radomes and aerials in XF-24 before masking these up for......

Image

... the underside colour, in this case XF-14. I think another coat may be in order though; but that's for the next session at the bench :) .

And with life and Open University study still stubbornly refusing to move out of the way, here's an update on the meagre amount of modelling I've managed over the last few days.

A second coat of XF-14 was applied to the underside and, also, to the u/c doors.

Image

It was at this point that I hit something of a dilemma.

The problem is that the lower leading edges of the fins are the wrong shape. Irritatingly enough it's just the particular aircraft that I want to build; all the other decal options have fin leading edge extensions. At first I thought I could live with this but the deeper I went into the build and the research the more I fretted about it :frown: and so, naturally, I decided to do some corrective work.

The first rather brutal step was to prise the fins back off as modifying them while attached to the model would have been nigh on impossible.

Image

This left hand one took a bit of fuselage away with it but it wasn't too difficult to repair with cyano and filler. Fortunately, it's opposite number popped off with no fuss.

Then I took my courage and my razor saw in both hands and set too. After some cleaning and profiling with sanding sticks the first one was at the desired shape.

Image

Now you can see why I was fretting about it.

Then it was onto the second fin, re-attachment with cyano and a filling job on top of the fuselage. Next time I'm at the bench I'll contour the filler and get back to the paintjob.

Image

I feel much better for doing this though :)

Let's crack on shall we?

The -29 has been attracting some more paint lately.

Image

This was just after colour no.3 on the upper camouflage. I'll mask off this colour and then get the final shade on today. Hopefully I'll have the majority of the painting done before the end of the day.

Of course, if the Copydex doesn't play ball I could end up with a bin candidate.

And the masking is off!

It didn't turn out too badly at all. This is after a modicum of touching up but not as much as I've been getting using Maskol lately. I've just got the anti-glare panel painted and the wheels and engines sorted. With a bit of luck I'll be able to get the yellow flashes sorted tomorrow and have it Kleared ready for decals.

That is looking very cool Daz.

I have the Italeri Mig-29 in my stash to build in this scheme so would be interested to know what paints you use.

All the paints I used are Tamiya so they're easy to get hold of in the UK.

The underside is XF-14, J.A. Grey.

The 4 colours for the upper camouflage are:

XF-5, Flat Green
XF-10, Flat Brown
XF-11, J.N. Green
XF-59, Desert Yellow.

And the radome/dielectrics are XF-24, Dark Grey.

Hope this helps mate :)

Right, onwards and upwards.

Back to the "model from the mummy's tomb" look to get the Mig masked for it's special markings.

Image

The markings are yellow so a base coat of orange was sprayed on first. A tip I picked up on this esteemed forum :) .

Image

Followed by 3 coats of Tamiya XF-3, Flat Yellow.

Image

And then the masking was removed, the pitot tube was reattached  and some touching up was done.

Then I gave it a coat of Klear and it's ready for decalling.

Image

I'm quite pleased with it so far 8-)

Nice work Dazz.

That yellow looks great, the orange under coat has worked well, I will remember that.
