Hey Guess what - it's another Hobbyboss Mig-15 *fin(ish)ed*

Post by Stuart »

Hi Guys,

Being so impressed with these Hobbyboss Mig-15's and fancying an easy build (and doing something for this GB) I've ordered myself the single seater and some Albanian markngs (Same set Toby is using for his two seater) so as soon as it arrives I'll be joining in.

Cheers

You'll enjoy it. If you haven't built a Hobbyboss kit before you're in for treat.

It's a shame you've bought the decals as I could've let you have a set off mine.

Hey thanks Toby! that's very kind :-D But no worries - I'll probably make the HB two seater as well if I enjoy this kit, which I'm sure I will - and I might well do a -17 and -19 as well.

If I buy decal sheets these days i try to get one with multiple aircraft types as they are more economical (unless of course you plan on building a range of the same type).

Cheers

Well I have my Albanian People's Army Air Force 1958-???? Blue Rider decal sheet (thank you Hannants), what I don't have is any blooming models to stick them on - aaarrrggggghhhhhh Blooming post!!!

Might be nice to do the Mig-17, Mig-19, Mig-21 and il-28 in the future though - then I'll have the full Albanian Air Force set :-D

WOOHOO!! My Single-seater turned up at work today!

So over lunch I got them both started and painted up the base interior colour (and black on the IP) - In the end I looked at what colours I had and went with what was closest to my references (Hum 89 I think – It’s not quite green enough but it’ll look ok from 3 feet). I have to say I’m quite impressed with the interior detail – but I can’t for the life of me fathom why they haven’t added a decal for the IP – or even some surface detail – which, given how they’ve gone to the trouble of adding it to the inside of the airbrakes and U/C doors you’d think was well inside their capability – strange. As it is I can’t live with the IP the way it is so I’ll see what I can knock up – I have some Mike Grant early jet instrument decals that I’ll try and use and see where I go from there.

The other area of concern I have is that both my kits seem to have warped vertical stabilisers – at least I think they are – I do wonder if it’s a design detail as they are both warped to the same dimensions… I think I need to find a 3-dimentional view.

Other than that I am super impressed with these two kits – I was expecting them to feel a bit cheap – but far from it – these are nicely detailed and nicely fitting kits and I shall definitely build some more.

Pics to follow when I have something to take pictures of.

Cheers

Good luck finding a decent 1/72 Mig-19 Stu. Trumpeter have been promising for a couple of years but they've failed to deliver.
I'm glad your kit's arrived though and looking forward to seeing the build.

I see on kingkit that Heller did one - what's that like? I might have a look at the AZ models -17.

Sorry for the lack of updates - But even though it was my wedding Anniversery yesterday I still managed some work - I've finished the cockpit, put in some weight, and painted up the intake and jetpipe. So hopefully I can get the wings on and fuse buttoned up today, and then I can sort out my warped tail.

Pics to follow soon - I'll try and get some shots of the cockpit before I seal it up.

Loving this kit BTW

Cheers

Well getting there - it's not the best photo (the rest are stuck on my camera) but it should at least prove I'm doing something.
