Re: Sign-up and Chat
Got a book out of my local library. Not a reference book, but an interesting one;
'The Boys of Ballykelly' by Gordon Blair, a short autobiography of the writers time at Ballykelly working on Shackletons in the late 1960s.
From the book, the Song of the Shackleton; [to the tune, The Long and the Short and the Tall]
Shackletons don't bother me
Shackletons don't bother me
Clapped out abortions with holes in their wings
Four piston engines and with two rudder fins
Their bomb bay is too bl**dy small
Three eighths of four fifths of sod all
You'll get no enjoyment on coastal employment
So cheer up my lads sod them all
They say the Shack is a very fine kite
This we no longer doubt
If you should find there's a Mig on your tail this is the way to get out
Just keep cool, calm and sedate mate
Don't let your British blood boil
But don't hesitate, slam it straight through the gate
and splatter the bas***d in oil!

Re: Sign-up and Chat
Well, the build is over with three completions, we have all had to battle against poor parts and useless decals on this one and I feel that it has not been the size of model that has fought our efforts it has been the age of the Frogspawn mouldings and in James's case incompetant resin casting that have stopped so many of the builds.
Thank you everyone for taking part and I am sorry we all were not able to complete this in the time we had but being both old and large this kit did not help us in our efforts.
David.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
It's been an experience that's for certain! It's about time one of the mainstream kit makers retooled this aircraft, as despite it's size it is charismatic and served for a lengthy period of time in one form or another.....I'm not going to hold my breath though!
Best wishes

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I'm hoping for future AEW and Lifeboat carrying ASR versions of this kit or at least aftermarket conversions and stores for it. There will certainly be AM decals for this model.
